Welp, it wasn't the wheels either. I swapped them out a few weeks ago, along with running Ferodo DS1.11's for a weekend. Put my ceramic pads back on after the rotors got cleaned up....no difference. Still get a judder between 40-50mph so I give up. This is just my life now

Hi all, I'm taking mine back to BMW on Tuesday for end of warranty check over. Mine is a DCT, been driving it traction on to ensure that the problem is there when they get it (and oh yeah, it's definitely there!). Will let you know what they do but not holding out much hope. For info, my wheels have not been refurbished and I have also had one of the front bearings replaced. Owned it from new and it started doing this at about 6k miles onwards. Now done 10k juddery (new word lol) miles since and it's really starting to get on my nerves.

Been to BMW today. They recognise that there's judder but aren't going to do anything about it. So I'm going to upgrade the brake system to Alcon callipers and discs as I can't put up with this any more. I'll let you know how I get on

I’m also worried about the long term effects, it’s definitely going to prematurely wear out control arm bushings and other bits up there. Group buy on Alcon rotors? Has anyone tried non-bmw rotors with factory calipers? I keep wondering if there is something wrong with the two piece design or the metallurgy that cause them to warp prematurely. |

I'm going to give it another shot and may actually hit my brake pads with sandpaper as well |

Seems like you are fighting uneven pad deposits. The first option is to properly bed your pads again. When do so you are going to slow it down but never STOP it. There are a lot of procedures out of but I found the link below extremely helpful.
https://alconkits.com/support/brake-pad-info If your deposits stay on for a long period of time can turn into a very hard material so needs to be mechanically removed. |

This last weekend I brought my f80 to the track cuz my e46 track car is in the shop. I ran a fully stock brake setup with stock pads but with motul fluid and zero problems. Yes the pad dies and you gotta monitor your braking but had no vibration or uneven deposits.
I'm no slouch either as I'm an instructor with NASA and run TT in my e46.

Hi all, I know it's not what you're going to want to hear exactly but since I've had the Alcon BBK fitted I've not had any vibrations at all and now done about 2k miles with them. Therefore, I can only put this down to the standard brakes. I'll report back once I've done a couple of track days, first one is booked for middle of next month so not far away.

Definitely wasn't pad deposits. I've driven on track with lots of different cars for the last 20 years; this is the only one that's not recovered after a week or so of normal driving.
You would need to drive one of the cars that's suffering this problem and you would know straight away that the rotors are warped. |

On my 4th set of rotors 2nd set of wheel hubs Rotary honed all 4 rotors after the judder came back Tried Akebono ceramic pads, Ferodo DS1.11's, and now Ferodo DS2500's None of it fixed the issue. My only guess now is maybe the calipers? Perhaps they need rebuilding and that's what's causing the issue? I'm at a loss with mine, I've just been living with it at this point.

I've had 1.11s on since September with four track days under the belt and no brake judder whatsoever. Have you had only OE rotors? Might be time to swap some Girodiscs or similar. But damn. That sucks balls.

Forgot to mention I put new wheels/tires on as well thinking maybe there was an issue with the hub/mating of a refurbished wheel the previous owner had. No dice. My only guess now is either caliper/piston issues, or something suspension related. It's just odd that you really only feel the judder between 40-50mph, other than that the car is smooth. I'd hate to dump a bunch of money on aftermarket rotors only for the problem to happen again.

I've went over many pages of this thread and have yet to see mention of the problem I've had: hub isn't square. Put on a freshly turned rotor, bolt it to the hub without a wheel, use a rotor runout gauge and clock the rotor as perfectly as you can. If you can't get it within 2 thou, try again with a shim.
Here's the part I needed on my Subaru: https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/UBPBA10403 |

Ive has terrible pad deposits at Fontana ROVAL. Stock rotors and Akebono pads. Two very high braking areas and rotors get so hot it melts material. Ive been good about doing some cool down time driving around the pits after coming off the track but that hasn't helped. I got some racing pads installed but they were too loud to run daily so had to take them off.
