For everyone’s edification^^ something about the main bearings needing replacement I gather. A select few G8X owners now have the distinct privilege of being test mules for local dealers to disassemble and reassemble S58
I would assume this has more to do with LL01FE 0W30 only having HTHS of 3.0 or less vs. older 5w30 and 0w40 with HTHS of over 3.5 than an engine design flaw.

I wouldn't be surprised at all tbh - that's one of my fundamental issues with modern BMW engine maintenance, moving to lighter weight oils for fuel efficiency. These aren't race engines that can take advantage of the frictional benefit of potentially using lighter oils but get rebuilt all the time cause they wear faster with those oils. Maybe this is okay for B58 cars since most of those will never see any strenuous activity, but for S engines that are marketed as track tools and will surely be seeing redline often? Plus, who is buying an M3/4 to eek out every mile to the gallon? I personally choose oils with better wear protection over anything else - currently running Motul 5W-40 but was running Edge 0W-40 before. Not to turn this into an oil thread lol - just one of many observations I've made about BMW over the years that further reinforces their general move away from driving enthusiasm and more into the homogenous mainstream

I heard an interesting opinion from some guys deep in the auto industry who were talking about the Munich Autoshow where the "BMW Circular" was revealed ...

Question:
They were talking about how Lucid & Rivian will take some of the luster off of Tesla; to which I asked but what about BMW, Benz, Toyota, and the majors? Their stuff is starting to get good ...

Response:
"Naw, corporate processes."

What?

"The majors likely *can't* make BEVs cheap enough in 3 years, certainly not with features of startups."

Hmmm that seems a bit far fetched, isn't it?

"No - the reason Tesla's Model 3 quality *today* isn't equal to a major is because they're iterating every aspect of production every month (weeks sometimes!) versus the majors which do it every 3 years ... and the other startups are copying them"

So ... like what does that mean?

"Ask the tool & die industry - they're scared shitless"

Wait, what??"

"Look, every legacy auto body is made up of a bunch of steel stampings, like 4-10, that all have to be attached, bonded, and welded on the line, not to mention stamped out in the first place, which takes tools & dies, usually 3-4 die sets per part. Tesla is doing *one stamp* that replaces 70+ parts and 100% of the line assembly, and every month they continue to update their lines to take out time & cost."

So the majors aren't also doing this?

"Well they're trying, but they're old corporations with high bureaucracy before making any change ... but they see edge of the cliff if they don't change so they're trying ... Ford hired Doug Field [from apple & more importantly, former Tesla & segway], reporting directly to the Farley [Ford CEO], but the question is, will he be able to do what he knows how to do? Will the bureaucracy & culture allow it? Probably not."

They did also mention, though, for the pickup market the F150 lightning will probably be a game changer.

Said differently, it's the strength of the niche, not the size of the niche, that generates the *right* traffic & therefore revenue: Bimmerpost site advertisers & financial supporters (like vendors) aren't willing to pay for Audi-boi shitpost eyeballs because those guys aren't likely buyers.

All of that said, the reason I agree in this case is because there's a big difference between an Audi fanboi - who doesn't like any BMW - and people like us who (presumably?) like some, or even many. Our content is still valuable to us, and in attracting others to BMW who may not like the new designs but dig the old ... and thus be valuable customers to this site's backers & vendors. Alienating those who might otherwise be cruising the vendors forum seems unwise.
You can only do this for so long before they kill their own traffic to this site though. Most of the main contributors to this site aren’t G8X members. That sub forum is pretty quiet. Another BMW site I started on years ago did the same thing for different reasons and now it is an irrelevant ghost town. They may want to think a little bit harder before driving people off. They may not come back. As you know being a smart businessman it is a lot harder to get new customers than to keep loyal ones.

I have to completely agree with what was said in this. It's such a shame it had to come from the grave.

A big loss for this community.

To be honest the only reason I'm still here is because of you guys in this thread.

I don't really pay attention to other site stuff because I've lost interest with what it's trying to be.
And I'm fairly new here too compared to you guys.

I don't see how this is a solid strategy because it's not helping anyone and least the community.

Speaking of losing interest in a brand, I kinda lost interest in the whole matrix thing after the 2nd movie and, tbh, i couldn't even tell you how many there were ... but I gotta say, this is a compelling - though kitchy - trailer:

I certainly want to watch it, though his rebirth has an anachronism to it which is slightly trite and all too common in todays Hollywood, I’ll still enjoy.

Don’t know if it’s in the budget but this exhaust fixes the one thing I don’t like about the 992s. They’re missing the traditional flat-6 pitch shift and howl - they’re loud for sure, but the exhaust sound kind of gives of a truck note (not dissimilar to S55 or S58). Don’t know if it has to do with the exhaust design, OPFs, placement of cats, or any number of other factors but this Soul exhaust definitely gives the exhaust that classic flat-6 character. Well as good of a character as you can get with turbos

I went with the traditional quad exhaust on my 992 over the PSE. I've heard the Soul cats are a great mod. So far I only plan to add spacers and clear turn signals from Suncoast Porsche the day of pick-up, and the GT3's duckbill the moment Suncoast can supply me with one.
