Thanks for the reference, I am eager to read up where the 154lb come from. It does bode well for much lighter G82cs . EDIT: not much info in that thread

Even if it does bode well for the G8X CS, that car is still far too ugly for me, not to mention will come to the market much later than when I plan on purchasing.

Right. But even if they do it, seems like more smoke and mirrors.
-154 (too optimistic) as in the case of the M5 CS puts an M3/M4 CS at 3825 curb, if G8X comp is the start point. GTS is just over 3500 with my homegrown lightweighting efforts. Can't see success as they grossly inflate the base/comp models, then redefine "lightweight" at 300-400 lbs. (G8X CS) and 7XX lbs. (F90 CS) over my car. There will always be performance advantages to stripping weight out of any car, no matter how heavy. CS badge can be utilized by the marketing and MSRP departments forever. But at some point the concept has been distorted, value basically lost.

Anyway my only “lease” experience was doing that on a 15 X1. Drove it for 3 years, treated it as my own, and when I went to return it they tried to charge me. They said I was 1000 miles over on the final oil change and there was a $700 charge. I eventually took it to the dealer GM and got it dropped but I assumed this was regular lease turn in practice. Meaning they make you pay for bs. If I had not been a regular buyer of Ms not sure they would have removed if. I used my incoming M4 at the time as leverage. After these discussions Im interested in trying another lease but I dont want another BMW. Just nothing in the new lineup that does anything to me. What other vehicles besides BMW and Kia Stingers lease real well? |

But I agree, still a fair bit heavier than my M4cs, which is also a bit over 3,500lb with MPE and iron brakes. Also agree, the quoted 154lb seems to be with a lot of creative accounting, factoring CCB and the 789M wheels, already offered as options on the M5C. I am curious to find out what else they did to lower the M5cs weight. I keep thinking that the Marketing strategy is to have the ///M-CS closer to what the original ///M used to be: more exclusive daily drivers with a strong track focus; mow that the basic ///Ms have become more of boulevard bourgeois status symbols. At least that's how my M4cs feels like.

I didn’t want to ask this in that thread but I’m genuinely trying to understand who the market is for a “lightweight” M5 that’s likely going to cost north of $150k? I mean did the M5 actually need to lose weight - as in is anyone actually using them in a capacity where a ~3% weight reduction either A. Achieves something that just increasing power output would not, and B. That would justify the substantial price increase the BMW will likely charge?

In Competition-spec with its eight-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive, the G80 weights 1,805 kg (3,979 lbs). Also wonder if a CS will be offered rwd. Questionable since it would have to offer all-around performance advantages as compared to the comp awd. At least I'd think so to justify the price. That will make weight loss more challenging. Right, just don't know the actual value of CS/CSL approaching or exceeding 2 tons. F8X CS delivered actual value by optimizing an already excellent platform that was a reasonable starting weight.

Agreed, the only problem with the Pany is they are 4 captains seats. We sometimes have five passengers so it would be odd to have a car that big and have it only seat 4.

I think if I went that much on a car, it would be a McLaren or Aston DB like something or other. Not a family hauler, got plenty of those. |

My friend just texted me this, a picture of his loaner. An M440i. The front plate looks awful on this car.

Saw my first one on the road the other day. There are a lot of cars that look better in the flesh, this isn't one of them.

That is truly brutal and kind of makes the new M3/4s look ok. Maybe that is BMW's evil plan to steer sales towards them. |
