Excessive differential noise?

hey guys. i'm spinning off a new thread from the water pump noise thread to ask a different question.

my GTS makes a loud whining (whirring?) noise from the diff. it varies with engine speed - gets louder at higher engine speeds, and vice versa. i know differential noise isn't necessarily a bad thing, but i had it checked out by my dealer just to be 100% sure.

they told me that they checked the car out thoroughly and everything was in good working order. the main reason i hear it so clearly, they said, is because the GTS has such little sound insulation. all this sounds logical to me, but since i'm the way i am and can't leave anything alone, i wanted to ask you guys - do your GTS's have discernible differential noise while you're driving?

if we're all in the same boat, then i'll just go on driving and not give this another thought.
