I think he means "how the car performs" in the sense of the fit & finish and quality of the vehicle overall, not power & handling performance. And he's perfectly justified in his opinion if he's experiencing those sorts of issues with the car.

100% yes. Zero issues, unless you count the occasional pebble in the brake shield. No squeaks, or rattles.
I enjoy driving this car, as much as strapping on a helicopter for some low level flying.

The only thing I would probably change is the CF roof. Mine rattles and crackles like mania now with 9k miles on the clock. I'm hoping when it goes in for a service they get under the middle support pillars behind the drivers door/window as I think that's where most of the sound is coming from, and then I'll go back to perfectly happy.
I am still happy as I'm a music on windows open kind of guy, but even my 99 jeep wrangler's hard top was quieter then this roof.

I promised myself (will see how long it last) to never buy a first release again - my previous P-car (997 4S) was the most solid car i ever had - and that was the release after the LCI approx 3 yrs after the initial 997 introduction. Sorry to hear about your rattles - i am sure that BMW will do their utmost to make you happy. |

I have a ton of issues with trim rattles. My 2007 335 with 75k miles is much tighter than my F80 at 1200. The quality control on the trim befits a $15k Kia more than an $80k BMW. Active sound drives me nuts, more in terms of execution than concept. The fake sound is so far out of phase with the real one that it sounds disembodied, as if the engine were in the back seat. The road noise from the rear tires is extreme over rough asphalt, and the lack of sound insulation is fatiguing on long trips. The stereo drowns this out, but the HK has terrible imaging, no soundstage, and sounds shrill when turned up. No amount of EQ can compensate for this. The traction control is too aggressive, but if I turn it off for my morning commute, I can't make it up the wet hill on the way without drifting. It bugs me that there is no way to make my preferred settings the default, and that the defaults are so bad. I hate that the cold start settings make it impossible to leave in the morning without waking up my wife. And I swear at the car every morning when I get to work, hop out, and need to unlock it to grab my bag from the back seat.
Still, I voted yes. I love this car. Some of these issues will be fixed at my next service. Some of them I will code out. Some of them are compromises inherent to this class of car. And my professional background makes it impossible for me to be satisfied with a stock audio system. But none of these issues are enough to outweigh how much I enjoy the drive. This is absolutely the best car in the class. The more I drive it, the less the issues get to me. That said, if the rattles cannot be fully extinguished, I may revise my vote. I really hope your outlook on the M improves over time!!! It really is a great car however I only have about 1600 miles on my car so it's still quite fresh. Hoping for no issues w/ it down the line. Perhaps over time I will get over it but I doubt it haha. I was still giddy about walking up to my previous car till the day I sold it (2013 E92 335i 6MT)

Yes, yes, yes. I can sedately haul the family around one minute, then absolutely shred back roads the next. It's really more car than I could ever need, and I can't wait to get it on a track.
Are there a few rattles? Sure. Is it perfect? No. Do I still think it's the perfect car for me? Hell yes! -X- |

Did the windshield crack because of a rock or some other issue? I have a crack because of a rock and will have to replace the windshield but I do not think of this as BMW problem as much as a Houston road problem.

2. Rattles... can you find the specific area of rattles? I usually have loose items in my M4 that causes the rattles... but so far no rattles for me except my convert roof sometimes. 3. Distortions? Can you specify? leather distortions? Porsche is the only car that I find that has higher quality than the M4.... but that's 40K more in the USA. Much more elsewhere. |

Obviously outliers happen... but for a first year car, this is pretty damn good.
