I think what makes SSII look a bit better on your particular E9X (..although it's still a boring color by comparison) are the differences in the character of the hood design. There's a more pronounced bulge and black hood vents to break up the sea of SSII. Add your CF roof to the mix, and those are all design elements that give the color a bit of character since the color itself lacks that. The SSII E90 M3 used in the sedan comparo thread looks equally as boring as this F82 M4.

Nice car BTW!

I was wondering the same thing. Plus, I saw a couple posts saying all SS cars look bad. Since I'm not familiar with SS as a color (my car is titanium silver), I wanted to see how it compared and came across this thread with pics: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showpos...30&postcount=8

Looks a lot better, IMO.

I don't know that anybody said SSII looks bad.........I admittedly may have missed a post or two...........but there are people who consider the color boring.

Besides, making such a dumb comment as "worst sounding turbo engine ever" consider this: most euro cars are turbo diesel 4 bangers, all transport trucks are turbo diesel, there are lots of gasoline 4 bangers which are nearly silent.

To say that M4 sounds the worst of all of those is just plain stupid.

I prefer the F30 3er's M Sport rear bumper with M Performance rear diffuser.

With the M4, I'm surprised that there are no fins or anything aggressive going on in the mid-section of the rear bumper/diffuser.

Yet there is too much going on with the outer portions of that rear bumper/diffuser. Takes my attention away from the quad pipes, which seem way too understated.

But sometimes i see a 4 series when i drive to work and each time i think...wow this is a big car, looks way bigger than a E92 and when i have a side view of it the angle of the cabin and hood...looks like there is something wrong ...the change of the angle of the hood and cabin looks like it's way to strong..hood jumps to strong down, actualy it's hard to explain ,but the change of this angle i realy don't like

Something amiss on the boot. Wide expanse looks plain and cheap from the rear. Even the side gill badging looks cheap and an ad-on. More boy-racer front with all those air intakes, and at this stage it is very hard to say what colour would complement the contour of this car. From the looks of it, a light colour like silver is a big no because it highlights specially the boot. A strong and vibrant colour maybe.

The E92 design is so harmonious and flows from the lights to the rear. I love my SSII too.

+1

Taking my statement out of context and insulting me because I expressed what is my opinion makes you a DUMB Idiot and a stupid Troll.

I was obviously comparing with turbo engines sound of other performance cars ( Nissan GT-R, Porsche Turbo, etc..) not lawnmowers, buses or vans.

Raspy and resonating ... terrible. Sounds bit like a Mitsubishi Evo.

That's just flat-out gorgeous. The E9X M3 has really aged beautifully (with respect to the exterior, at least).

I'm holding out hope that these are just unflattering photos as the LCI F80 M3 is very much on my radar.

I disagree that silver generally is a boring or "Camry" color. Sure it's on the understated/classy side but silver can look very menacing and can help show off a car's lines.

May I present Exhibit A:

V6's and Flat 6's tend to have different sound characteristics than I6's. I mean, the E46 ///M3 is a prime example. It's an engine note that you either love or you hate.........raspy and rackety sounding (..which I love BTW!). The S65 does sound the best to me, and I'll miss the motor, but I am going to love this S55 powered car.

FWIW, Benz's look very good in silver. The angular lines of the car go well with the color. BMW lines are softer and the cars are more curvy by comparison.

Seems to me that people are overreacting to a few bad pictures (again). I'll admit the car certainly doesn't look its best in those shots, but I have no doubt that it will be stunning once we all see it in person.

Well unlike YMB (...a color which also received a lot of criticism), we all tend to have real world experience seeing SSII in person, so a lot can be drawn from that.

I agree with that.

I tried to post a link of a 911 too, which has softer lines.

My F30 M Sport 335i looked great in Glacier Silver (which I ended up liking more than Titanium). I honestly wish the F30 M Sport front bumper had ended up on the F80 M3 and the F80 M3's front bumper on the F30. That does not read well but you get the idea.

You and I both (..well the former, not the latter ). The F30 M-Sport front bumper is a really nicely designed piece.

The straight lined hood is awful. Again, stylistically, the roundel should move when the hood is opened. Bring back hoods that open forward!!
