Installed my lightweight lip today. I didn't use the provided spacers. When I mocked it up I could tell they were going to cause bowing. I had some thick auto-grade rubber bushings which I used instead (where i got them I can't remember). A side benefit is it gives a bit of flex to the center when needed (for when I inevitably scrape it.

Have any of you guys noticed any ride issues over 110mph? I notice some (aero induced I'm guessing) uneasiness from the front axle over 110. Just wondering if it's because I'm not running a more aggressive rear spoiler (to balance it out), or if it's inherent to this lip design...

The best part about this lip is the flex, I went over a deceased possum at 120kph last weekend, suffice to say the possum was actually a little bigger that I calculated, the lip just flexed and rolled over it and I looks like it never happened....its a great product, but the centre spacer issue is present on mine also, I need to get around to shaving that down...

I used the provided spacers, 8 of the 6mm bolts were missing from my kit as well. My lip has a very slight bow in the middle of it but I think that is part of the design for downforce.

Thanks for the closer picture at ground level; first time I've been able to see the gap along the splitter. Could you add a close up picture from the side; wheel well to front of the car please?

So how is it holding up? Could you post some more pictures? I'd like to see it close up by the splitters, from the side of the car and across the front if you would be so kind.

+1 I've had mine on since last May and it's holding up perfectly. My F82 is pretty low on KW V3's and the lip has handled scrapes and bumps very well (knock on wood).

had my lip since May when i got the car. at first i didn't have to modify the spacers because there was no flexing. as a little time went by, the flex became more and more evident. without removing the lip, i removed the middle 4 screws and cut the plastic spacers down by a couple of mm. after reinstalling, i still needed a little more so i took the cut pieces and stacked them on top of the outer spacers. after that, everything looked nice and straight again.
also, i added the cf splitters to this lip since i got them in a pretty cheap package deal when i ordered the upper splitters. this is how it looks right now. every time i think about switching up the front to something carbon fiber, i keep remembering how strong this lip is.

Great thread. I just received mine on Friday and was thinking of doing this install myself. A shop down the road wanted like $200 just to install it
If most feel you can get it on without lifting the car I will be all over it. I just hope I don't have this bow/curve in the lip like some of you have reported.

Post #50. "Have you checked the incline of the lip? Is it laying level? Or could it be tilting up slightly (back to front). When I first had mine installed it did have a slight front to back decline thereby producing lift. I was thinking it could have had an additional spacer at the front to lock in the angle."
There is definitely an upward slope that could produce lift at high speed. Mine measured between 3.5 and 4.5 degrees up in the middle section. I made some new spacers for the rear that are about 1/4" tall to replace the ones that came with the kit. This resulted in raising the rear part of the splitter. I modified the height of 3 of the the spacers that came with the splitter and placed them more to the front to get the downward inclination that was needed. This also makes the overall stability of the lip much better. It doesn't look too bad as the middle section is curved downward with a radius to mirror the curvature of the bumper in that area. There is a high speed turn (9) on the track where I run (Road Atlanta) and the car is definitely more stable around that turn than it was with no splitter and that tells me I'm getting a little downforce as opposed to the possible lift I would've gotten in stock form. |
