Insurance nightmare!

Well after getting this far and very close to delivery of my M3 I've now having a bit of mare with arranging insurance.

My current car F31 330d policy runs out tomorrow (06-05-16) so I ideally would like to insure this car with a view to changing the policy once the new car arrives.

However I am running into the following problems.

Some companies that give me a good price on this car won't insure me on the M3 for a sensible price (about £700- 1000) more expensive.

Companies that have given me good quotes for the M3 won't insure me on the 330d?!?

Almost all insurance companies at present do not have anything other than the CP M3 listed if you don't have a registration number (which may be why the price is jumping higher than I thought in some cases).

Some that will do a reasonable price insist on a tracker meaning another cost to add in!

I've tried loads of comparison sites, Sky insurance and Adrian Flux but seem to be getting nowhere fast.

I though I could just drop the car on a temporary policy for 3 weeks but they are coming out at £300+ for 3 weeks?!? That's about the same as I paid for the last year for the 330d?

Why the feck must this be sooo complicated!

Anyway if anyone has any bright ideas I'm all ears! Ideally before I tear out what little hair I have left

its interesting as BMW wouldn't touch me, after the 7 day gap which they offer complementary on any purchase from them. they proceeded to tell me they would touch me as the car is left on a street.
My existing insurers had no issues, £1000. I am 42, however for London I thought this was ok.

Milton Keynes. Most quotes for the M3 have been about £650-750 which is ok but then they wont let me take out the policy with the 330d and change to the M3 in 3ish weeks?! It's a bloody mystery really. I can't understand the problem.

A plan wouldn't insure me, Aviva are coming in at just under £500.

LV are coming in at £650 ish.

Both quotes include after market wheels.

I'll give A plan a try and I haven't done yet, thanks for that.

LV were about £750 but wouldn't do 330d first.

Hastings quoted me just over £400 for the M3 but would even quote a price for the 330d??!?

Aviva quoted me about £550 for the 330d won't quote for the M3?

I seem to be in some sort of alternate reality where all the companies have totally different approaches to each car!

Are you paying for the insurance in full?

If so, insure the 330d for the cheapest amount, then cancel after 3 weeks. You'll get a pro rata refund minus a cancelation fee, then start a new policy for the m3 on with the cheapest policy.

Remember you have a 14 day cooling off period, so if you can do it within that time it would be ideal

Why can't you take out reasonable insurance on the 330d, then cancel it and get a partial refund when the M3 comes?
Then go elsewhere for the M3?

You might lose a little in admin fees etc, but it will probably be cheaper to do this.

Obviously check with the insurance company first that a partial refund is possible.

From what I understood when trying to get quotes many insurers view policy cancellations as a negative point against you leading to higher quotes... Hence I am trying to avoid that option.

I have never heard of that and never been asked the question.. I just did it with my x6, was in the same situation as you, took out direct for the old one but then they wanted a tracker for the new one so told them to cancel it.

Went with nationwide in the end for the new x6 with no tracker, never asked me anything about directline...

I would just go with your existing company and cancel it when you get the new one, will be a lot easier as they will only take a month of payments and you won't have to send them anything..

Hmm I'm fairly sure about every single quote I've done asks about have you cancelled any insurance within the last five years. Usually just before or after asking about any accidents or claims in the last five years? Anyway I'll give some of the suggested a go and see if I get desperate!

Thanks everyone

Try a local broker and get them to do the leg work... Equity red star(ERS) as an insurer
or Hiscox if you have several cars and a nice house...

The question they ask is, have you ever had insurance cancelled (by the insurer) not have you cancelled insurance

I was thinking this, just start anew with the best M3 deal and let to soon to lapse 3300D just lapse....

Are you trading in the 330d? and M3 is due in 2-3 weeks?

drop the 330d of at dealers let it lapse. Get a hire car for a few weeks.

get your m3 and drive into the sunset

if possible obviously.
