Optional M Driver's Package
Why is the the M drivers package not offered for the USA cars? What also comes in that package that we don't get?

It's offered in a few countries including obviously Germany. In Germany it raises the top speed limiter to 280 kph and the price includes a day and a half at the Nurburgring getting tuition from professional drivers on the track. The cost is around 2500 Euro I believe and includes hotel and insurance.

.......but only in certain countries, for the UK and the USA it is not available at all. However.......if you were to take your car to a German dealer it should be possible. They take the ECU from the car and send it to Garching to be updated with the new software. I believe it takes a week or so to get your car back ready to go.

That is what I am saying. If you live in the UK or US and take it to your local dealer you will have zero chance of getting this package. German dealer is the way forward.

I am not sure tbh- perhaps to keep the car safely within limits of tyres and brakes etc?? Just a guess.

I am back home in Germany in a couple of weeks time for the summer. PM me in a couple of weeks to remind me and I will find out from my dealer if it's possible. If it is and they're happy to do it I would be willing to assist.

My dealer was trying to get me to get this when I ordered but I declined although I'll look at it again in the new year when I have a few km's on the car. I did ask what it involved and he just said that a chap would come up to the dealer, plug in a laptop and remove the Vmax and it included some driver training (I'll get some details from him as it does interest me.) I was not too impressed as it only allows the car to reach 280 km/h whereas my current Alpina goes to 285 km/h and the one I had ordered reaches 305 km/h. He told me it was so that BMW basically indemnify themselves if you have an accident. Also in Germany the car needs to go to the TüV again to get the new registered top speed put into the logbook.

I got the M Drivers Package on my M3, and what I found interesting is that the limit is raised once the run in period and first delivery service is completed. So when you receive the car it is still limited to 250 km/h. Which makes me think that it's probably a pretty easy thing for the dealer to do even if you haven't ordered it when you purchased the car.
The training day will be awesome! |

Did you get the training? How was it? What specifically was involved? Did you use your car or another BMW M? Thanks!

A coder can just come over and remove the limiter completely. For $150 a coder came to my house and removed that and disabled my seat belt chime and...
Windows go up even after opening the door mid open The auto shut off crap defaults to OFF The active sound is gone My a/c doesn't start on when I stert my car. It is off. Etc etc..

All other items you list can be coded, but the limiter is controlled by the DME ecu module, which is automatically locked after 10 hours. There has been discussion about people having this coded immediately after ED before the DME is locked, but questions as to what happens after a software update when the car gets back to the US. I would question any coder who charges money and claims to remove your limiter. Look at the threads in the coding forum.

+1. Have you tested the limiter?
The rest of the coding you mentioned is basic stuff.

If your in the U.S. you probably won't be able to send your ECU to Germany. The DME software is very likely to be different. (It always has been with any other BMW previously) the U.S. models have things like the DTML pump that European cars don't have.
Once actual ECU flashing comes out its as simple as changing a specific spot from 01 to 00 in the .bin file. (Speed limit master) its actually kind of cool the way BMW writes software. |
