Help please: Chassis error with B16, but no codes

Hey all,

So today I got the Chassis restricted error, with disappearance of suspension mode on dash and inability to change throttle or steering settings. I have the B16 Damptronic kit, installed about 4 months ago and no issues with it up to this point. I did nothing suspension-related recently. Using BM3, I searched for codes and there are none. I will pull the wheels over weekend and look at wiring, but any other insights on this? It is recurring with repeated car on/off cycles.

I can't see how this could be related, but 2 nights ago I changed my 6MT fluid. Obviously it's just taking that undertray on/off -- could that in ANY way have affected any connections that people know of? No issues with getting the tray on/off. I did not appear to be near any wires that I can remember.

Of course this happens 3 days before next track day

EDIT: May or may not be relevant to note that when the car first starts, while idling, everything is OK. The error consistently appears only after the car starts rolling. Not sure if that would exclude a continuity problem with an EDC connector somewhere, for example

Thanks!

So checked all the connectors, everything seems good. For the fronts, I disconnected the cable connection down near the strut, and tested continuity with a multimeter on that path heading to strut itself and back along the short wire that comes from the strut, and there was continuity on both sides. So hopefully that means at least that front internals are OK from that standpoint.... Prepping for track day so didn't have time to disconnect at any other points including the rears, but I guess that will be next.

Does anyone else know what might cause a chassis restricted error with zero codes, other than a faulty EDC connection? Could it be something completely unrelated to suspension? I'm trying to decide what next best move is: take it to indy shop who installed the B16 (probably the better move if it IS suspension-related), or take it to dealer (car is out of warranty, but I have a good relationship with SA and he usually takes care of me -- maybe more likely to get a diagnosis)?

Or third option, maybe do a session with kubax86 and see if he can work any magic?

Any/all thoughts welcome.... thx

I had this issue and it could be a faulty wire to your B16 suspension and/or the accelerometer sensor on your shock. It's probably not a permanent error, but a soft error that when triggered will come on. Hopefully it's as simple as replacing the sensor and/or wire, worst case, change out the shock.

Here's a long thread on the issue: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1092996

I just decided to go with a static coilover system and coded out EDC.

Good luck!

Hey thanks for chiming in... I did read your previous post. You were able to pull error codes it appears. On your screenshots, what software/device were you using to pull the codes? I'm assuming if I had the same ones, BM3 would find them, but I'm not sure. Without additional diagnostic info like those codes it's kind of a shot in the dark, with a lot of potential for $$$ in shop hours to diagnose. At least if I have the same error as you pointing to a particular side I could get replacement cables as the first step, that would streamline things a bit. Thanks

Great tip, thank you... I downloaded bimmerlink and was able to pull the code "482945 - Wheel acceleration sensor - front right - sensor 2 -- value - below threshold"

Was hoping it would be something like this. Bad news is that this part (37156871465) seems to be out of stock everywhere. I wonder if it's worth just replacing the cable... anyone know if a bum cable would throw the same code?

It’s the sensor. Have you looked on fcp Euro? I would buy the sensor and the cable at the same time.
