My solution to the CF roof bike rack issue
Installed a trailer hitch and use a hitch mount bike rack. Also means I can pull a small trailer with track day tires
These are not the greatest, and make the hitch look a lot more visible than it actually is. But whatever. And yes, you do have to make a small rectangular cut in the rear valence, or whatever that thing is called. Heat shield needs to be trimmed a bit, as well. Actually kind of stealth, at least with my BSM M4. The hitch receiver itself is black, so black on black blends well.

Sorry for my ignorance but what is the "carbon fiber roof bike rack issue"? Are there no mount points or do the suction cups not work?

No mount points; Seasucker roof rack would work, just not something I wanted. Also, I didn't title the thread; a mod moved my comments from another thread, and give it the title you see.

Extend it out a few more inches and you got yourself a rear parking sensor

I wish I would've thought to do this with my F80, to tow my F82 to meets. Just to be that guy.

I can just put the actual hitch in there, that would extend it out. Or, I could go with the classy set of dog balls....

Is this correct? If so, you may wish to read this thread, starting at post #17: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=911294 The problem is that the mounts themselves are not provided inside those recesses. |

It does. When I use it, which is almost never.

Looks very good and pro. But I am shocked at the pics with the bumper removed, so much plastic and stuff in there compared to my simple e46 325i bumper. It looks like it's a job to remove it. Off topic q: which jack points did you use in order to put the jack stands in the OEM position?

Yeah, there is a crap ton of plastic stuff back there. Some of it is part of the rear sonar system (which, incidentally, if you have a trailer attached and go into reverse, the sonar system screams at you, but no issues with no trailer attached).
For jacking it up, I put a jack in straight from the back, onto the diff, raised it high enough to get the stands in, then then took the jack out. Done that multiple times, and never had any problems. You probably know this but it doesn't hurt to say it again; if you jack up the rear, ensure you use wheel chocks on both front wheels.
