Am I crazy?
You can't carry over the exact same logic or percentage to M4 because it still has the same displacement and there is a limit to what can be extracted from a 3 liter engine no matter what turbo technology that they have used. Being safe in terms of cooling and keeping decent throttle response and no lag are also fundamentally important.

Don't forget that as long as turbos are stock even best and most aggressive FBO tuned 1Ms could yield around 450hp and 500tq, that is what you can do most if you care about the reliability as well.

So I agree with people who comment that this won't be that much tune-needing and tune-liberal engine as versions of N54 was, there were too many restrictive components present with the N54, it was BMW's first try on a relatively lag free turbo technology, now after seven years, the new engine of the M3/M4 might be already where sensible owners would prefer to leave it as it is...oh well, almost.

RS5 is a pig at over 4,000 lb.; more than negates the extra 25 hp. And, it only has 317 lb. ft. Tq.

Interesting, where is the price list taken from?

You cannot choose the DCT option on BMW.de when configuring a 4-series. You only have 6 speed manual, 8-speed auto and 8-speed SAT

All of you so worried about a horsepower rating on paper might as well just go buy one of these for 20k less and get 250ish more horses.

The emphasis you guys are putting on moar powah is rather amusing. The next m3/4 will probably equate to much more than the sum of its parts.

425hp is a little disappointing. More of an issue for driving 'feel' is the torque figure is pointing to a very broad flat torque curve, starting early and ending well before the redline. Not a very 'Sporty' characteristic.

Just because 335 make good power off a tune does not mean this new M3/M4 will. Engine size and redline and where power cuts off or turbos cut out is a big factor. It could make huge numbers from a tune, or it could make very small numbers with a tune and more internal upgrades are needed....

It is from Switzerland.

Link to full PDF price list

Shows how BMW restrict and change options depending on country. I think if DCT was an option everywhere, DCT would be oversubscribed.

Interesting that there is a AWD DCT though.

The underrating is better seen on BMW FI cars rather than NA cars.

425 HP to me looks good, I figured it would be 415. BUT the torque is a little low, I was hoping for 400-410 torque.

Before I bought my 335i I had a C63 and used to trade once in a while with a relative who had the E92 M3. The main difference both of us noticed was the torque, the C63 was a monster and was more fun to drive during the daily commute, while the M3 was a little better on open roads (which we don't have too many of in Chicago).

lets hope with the extra 10 horsepower, 70 torque and with the loss of a few pant sizes (both the car and myself), the M3 will be able to break that 4.0 0-60 range. I know its just a number, but $70K-$80K is also a number that comes with performance expectations.

Since when did the M become about strictly drag racing and beating a tuned 335i from a red light??

I think some of you would be more happy in a mustang.

Sorry, duff info, I had a copy of the original that clearly states 7-Gang Doppelkupplung. Makes sense now as I had never seen an AWD DCT from Getrag.

The E46 was only 100lb or so lighter than the E9X. Bringing the F8X to E46 levels will just not cut it to match the competition in terms of power to weight.

I purchased my E46 and E92 before even driving one. It will not be the case for the F82...
E46 M3 is 300 pounds lighter than the E92 M3.
