How involved is the ethanol sensor install? Is it relatively straightforward to install and wire into the CAN bus, or is it involved and require special tools?

Awesome - thanks Kenton. You do most of your tune revisions and log on the street and just send them to Ian after? I just threw DPs on the M3 the other day so now the flex fuel is starting to look super attractive... |

Out of curiosity, is there anyway to still utilize the M1 and M2 buttons on the steer wheel to switch maps on the fly? Does this thing have the programming logic to "curate" only compatible maps based on the fuel that is currently being ran on the car?

Map switching works (on the fly) by holding the cruise control button and then using the toggle switch to change the map. Each map can be customized to run whichever fuel you want. So Map1 could be flex fuel and utilize the flex sensor for blends of E85...Map 2 could ignore the flex sensor and be tuned for 110 Leaded Fuel...Map 3 could be C16...Map4 could be w/e unleaded octane fuel. It's all custom to the users needs.

They can also customize the throttle in the various modes and control the exhaust flaps. In my car the S+ mode has been tuned to keep throttle more linear and smooth. Also I have exhaust valves always open in sport and s+ modes. Burbles are also disabled completely.

Ok .... so does Ecutek and flexport communicate to prevent potential user error of accidentally changing to an incorrect map on the fly? For example, if wifey filled up the tank with 91 octane and you switched to your E30 file, some sort of safeguard is triggered?
Also can you elaborate on how ecutek works for DCT transmission tuning? Thanks!

All my 4 maps are flex fuel based...and this isn't like BM3 where you run a E30 file. There is currently no DCT transmission tuning at the moment with Ecutek but I believe it's on their list for future expansion.

Do you have any specific info on the ethanol sensor install? Locations, wiring, etc? Also who did you purchase through if you don't mind? |

Kit includes Zeitronix ECA2 Canbus, S55 hose kit - plug n play adaptors (no hose cutting and PTFE stainless braided hose with excellent fittings), and Flex sensor. Last I heard he was charging 500usd+shipping. As for the locations/wiring/install I tied into the FEM on the same location as the OE BMW Car Eye taps into for power and a couple of the other pins to tie into the CANBUS. If you buy a kit or get tuning through Bend Calibration I can provide that info. I get no kickbacks but both these folks are friends and I like to support their business.

Can you also put a call into Ecutek and see why the Nissan guys get the rolling anti-lag in their suite but not us

Just pulled the trigger on this. Should be tuned and running flex fuel within 2-3 weeks. Will report back on product review.

We believe that Ecutek allows him to truly recalibrate the ECU to make good, safe, and consistent power. Unfortunately, at the moment, they don't have rolling anti-lag, which I really want but they've developed it for the GTR, Z, and Subie market. I can only imagine that they'll do the same for the BMW/Supra market at some point...hopefully! I went with Alex because proximity is also important to me, from a tech support standpoint. I know there are a lot of great tuners out there and virtual dyno sessions have become the new thing. But the tech support, especially from both a software and hardware perspective, is vital for me. This is based on my past learnings and experience with my 24v VR6 turbo project a decade ago. It's just going to be a mild Stage 0.5 tune w/flex fuel sensor to allow the car to properly run a range of 93 octane, E30-E85, to Race Gas. No down pipe yet as my state inspection is just around the corner in Sept this year. I will do my best to also shed light on how to manage E85 for reliability. Alex and his shop have done a great job dialing-in my car's suspension, maintenance, and are local. I've had the car running on KW V3s now for 39k miles with zero issues. Car sees 100mph+ daily and is driven through Chicago winters. Zero issues whatsoever except for the occassional need for alignments, new brake pads, new tires, etc. We all knew the consumables weren't going to be cheap on the F8x platform $$$$ right?

With that said, having more whp hopefully should offset the lack of rolling launch and gearing disadvantages, like your big turbo M3.
