Any thoughts on UOA? - 18' M4

18' M4 @ 54K miles.
Maintained at 5K OCI since 15K miles.

I'd appreciate any thoughts on the UOA attached.
Anything concerning?
Not sure if it helps, but this was the oil change for the first time I lost 0.5 liters b/w the intervals.
No oil leaks or low oil warnings.

Only thing that jumps out is the loss of viscosity. I’d probably change at 4k to keep it in check or pick an oil with a higher starting KV100 compared to LM and try again at 5000 mi.

Is the loss of viscosity typically indicative of oil shearing? Therefore, the only concern is with using LM?
If so, how is it typically recommended to run oil for 10K OCI, given LM 5w40 is LL01 approved? Just wondering,

IMO LM isn’t a stellar oil. However, since it does carry LL-01, then it should be rather robust. However, it is not as good as oils like GC 0W-40 with a high PAO base. Try something like a Motul Xcess Gen 2 5w-40.

Here is a UOA of my wife’s N55 which is run exclusively on full E85 using Motul Xcess Gen 2. Her results are much better and the oil stayed within spec throughout 5000 miles even with E85. Keep in mind her car runs at operating temperatures around 250f so it runs much hotter than our cars (226f). This is actually good for her since the hot oil will burn off the excess water from the oil. Even with this higher operating temperature, the used oil remained very strong.

I have done 8 UOA’s on my M3, you can reference mine at around 52,00 miles. I too see the viscosity being the standout issue . Fwiw… I switched to Motul as noted and my overall viscosity held up much better then when I ran LM 5W40 (Molygen). In general a lot less shearing.
My N55 in my wife’s 335i has had Motul 5W40 Xcess Gen 2 as well and the latest report on her engine had the comment of “fifty shades of excellence “. (I’m not making that up). So, for my 2C….. try Motul and see what a couple of 5000 mile runs show.
I hope that helps.

Castrol Euro Only. I put them in all the M’s I have worked on. No problems and great oil. It’s as a matter of fact the Twin Power Turbo Oil that BMW slaps their label on
