It's still a tax based on poor fuel consumption. It is not exactly the same thing as what they are doing in Europe but it serves the same purpose.

Manual
When AMG finally wakes the fuck up and offers a manual tranny to their US cars, I will seriously consider them. Same goes to Audi.
Until then

That's true, and I thought it did but apparently I was wrong. Do you know of a V6 that has the tax?

The 3.2L I6 in the E46 M3 had a gas guzzler tax. Now that manufactures are so focused on mpg, there aren't any. More and more V8's are now avoiding gas guzzler threshold. The new vette gets 29mpg highway, that is amazing.

First of all, no.
AMG is a boy toy, it goes too far to be different than the normal versions. Sure, the one you have WHEN photoed right has grown on me a little, but I can't see myself owning one, it's iffy to picture being even a passenger. M crew is the definition of no life (sorry, dinner from hell suffered just now), and M's just highlight it. AMG people have hope still, though the one today in the table just kept telling me all about her plans with her surgeon. Maybe her car will be upgraded to the new one too, and they will match once again. This I will give you though, I think this car will age better than the F8x.

Chris Harris on the "sound" of the new AMG 4.0L biturbo V8:
And then there's the noise. It's pure AMG V8. The S model comes with exhaust flaps as standard and a noisy button on that vast centre console. It'll do the great phlegmy V8 whoop from start up, blares like the best of them at speed and in Race mode the overrun pops are more war-zone than Nordschleife. Tobias knows where he has a competitive advantage from his powertrains: "We don't need loudspeakers" he grins. A subtle jab toward Active Sound? http://www.pistonheads.com/news/defa...?storyId=30598

Hell, even the 4.6L biturbo V8 in my E550 sounds loud, throaty, and angry. It may sound weird but one cheap modification that us C63 guys perform is that we fold down the backseats in our cars. The exhaust sound can be heard so much better when the trunk is "connected" with the rest of the cabin. I still have not gotten used to the cold starts in the C63. They're absolutely brutal (in a good way).

If there is one thing I really miss about the C63 (there are others, but this is the biggest) is the AMAZING sound on cold start. Heck, the AMAZING sound ALL of the time. For me, the C63 was/is the best sounding car made.

I am going to slap on the GoPro tomorrow to capture some evidence. Also, I found some new (and exclusive) W205 C63 spy shots. I am thrilled that AMG decided to keep gigantic 6-piston calipers up front!

it will no doubt be a great car but the side view reminds me of an infiniti and the taillights remind me of a buick (sorry :-/ ) … i also think the new infotainment device looks a little busy/odd having the wheel below the touchpad deal. it all may grow on me and it has already a little, but i just wish it had blown me away. i almost want to wait and test drive it before i order an M3 but i just don't think i'll like enough about it more than the M3. there's very very little about the M3 that i don't like and there's a lot that i really like, so i think my mind is made up.
slightly nit-picky stuff but … i still like the design of the previous c63 way more. oh well! i still see getting a c63 or m3 as a win-win and i'm still looking forward to seeing it come out. anyway … i think this is probably the best comparison we have (esp without the RS4) for the M3/M4. hopefully it keeps creating some fun banter. matt |
