Error Code 20A203 – Charge air cooling system: signal implausible

Has anyone ever gotten this error code "20A203 – Charge air cooling system: signal implausible" and was able to find the cause of the issue? Pops up randomly with a drivetrain malfunction notification, then disappears later and comes and goes randomly. The only mods to the charge air system are Mishimoto Charge Pipes and VRSF J pipe with stock engine cooler and no tune. Planning to revert back to stock charge pipes and J pipe unless anyone has any idea of what could be causing this. I've re-examined the connections to the pipes and sensors multiple times as well as an BMW indy shop, but did not find anything wrong. Any help is deeply appreciated, thanks guys.

I’ve had the same issue since august with zero answers. ISTA says to check the power/ground and wiring for faults, and if none to replace the pump.

I replaced the pump twice, reprogrammed the dme, redid the wiring, cloned the dme to another, replaced the dme with a new one, redid the wiring again, reprogrammed the dme again, replaced the pump again, and now it’s been at a dealer for 3 weeks, and they’re scratching their heads.

Hopefully you just have to replace the pump. What I can tell you is it has nothing to do with the charge pipes, j-pipe, or the intercooler. It’s a dropout of the signal from the pump to the dme for more than (15?) seconds.

My battery went bad during troubleshooting and was replaced. No change in reference to the 20a203 code, however. I also replaced all the wiring, so none of that applies. Thanks though.

Apparently a corroded/arcing transmission-chassis ground strap was my issue. If replacing the pump doesn’t fix your problem, inspect that ground.

Where was that located? Can you elaborate or provide any pictures?

It’s between the exhaust and the heat shield.

Djdnav , did you just end up having to replace that transmission-chassis ground strap, or did you just clean it..? Also, which portion of the exhaust is this located near (DP or midpipe area?)

I wouldn't say i *had to* replace the strap, as resurfacing the contact point made the code disappear, but the metal in the strap showed some fatigue/discoloration. For this reason, I replaced the strap and ran a secondary ground with 4ga wire.

It's located on the passenger side near the dp/mp junction.
