Audison HK Upgrade

I'm 90% sure I'm going to upgrade with Audison. I've been out of the car audio game for quite awhile so I'm not up to speed on the latest and greatest. A local installer that I've worked with in the past on other things recommended a system from these guys.

https://www.audison.eu/

It would be their AP8.9 amp, which has an integrated DSP in it.

2 APBMWKE K4E two way speakers in the front doors.

2 APBMWX4E coax speakers in the rear doors.

2 APBMW S8-4 underseat subwoofers.

I did the HK Bavsound speaker upgrade in my previous M3 amd while it was an upgrade and it sounded good, I'm looking for a much better improvement this time around. If anybody has any experience with Audison products, I would appreciate the feedback. And of course and feedback (pros/cons) on this upgrade would be appreciated was well.

I think you still need to deal with the MOST to analog conversion unless you are handling that with coding.

I really wish I did, but after six months of my preferred installer flaking out on me, I still have my stock HK system.

I found another installer/company that I like that is going to give me a quote on a Morel/Mobridge system. So hopefully that works out and I have something to share here in the not to distant future.

my bavsound ghost woofers barely make a noticeable difference.

any reason you are steering from their stage 1?

I had it before on my old M3. It was a nice upgrade, but I wanted a better overall sound/solution. So this time I'm going with replacement speakers and an amp with a tuned DSP (or stand alone unit).

I currently have the BAV Sound Stage 1 interior speakers in my car. Instead of the Ghost set up I went with the JBL 10" SUB in a Custom Box with a 800Watt JBL Amp mounted on the back of the Box for BASS. It's actually a pretty sweet set up that sounds OEM++. People always ask me what my set up is when they hear it with my top down.

I also had him cut a port behind the Middle Arm rest in the back seats and he put a black Mesh so you cant even tell its open to the trunk when I have that Portion open to allow more Bass to resonate in the interior when I have the Top up.

I’ve read that Mobridge won’t work with 2016+ M cars because of the new version of NBT. Unfortunately the HK is just brutally hard to upgrade.

That said, in home stereos, the speakers are by far the biggest difference makers in sound (assuming that you are providing sufficient power to them). While I’ve not seen rave review of Bavsound at lower volumes, I’m wondering if a Focal or those Rockford Fosgate special BMW speakers would make more of a difference. I don’t want to play loud, rather I’d like more clarity.

I heard Mobridge was working on a solution for that, I’ll find out soon enough.

It might come to that, but it isn’t the easiest getting very busy installation shops to take the time to look into solutions like that.

I thought I had read that and my new installer seems to think they have a solution for the HK. But, like I said I'll find out soon.

That is the solution... I updated two DMI with it and it works on a 2017 and a 2018 M3 HK.

So that includes compatibility with iDrive 5 and 6? I ask only because the Mobridge website still lists only iDrive 4.
