Sigh... My 666M Blacks may be up for sale in New Year

I scraped one of the fronts on my 2018 M3CP I did it going through a very tight set of roadworks on a lane and didn't notice a low kerb hidden by mud - even more annoying as I'd driven though it once OK but had to turn around just beyond it due to floods

Only a few light scratches into the alloy which I removed but then decided it would be very difficult to mask & match the shadow/smoked laquer & a local bodyshop thought the same. My fix for this was to order a genuine set of 763Ms in black which should arrive Christmas Eve

This means that in the New Year I will probably sell my 666Ms individually which will give people who are as clumsy as me the opportunity to replace their scraped wheels with the genuine article (the other 3 are unblemished - as far as I am aware - I will clean them and inspect them thoroughly in the New Year once they are off the car). If I could have found a genuine replacement (not at dealer prices) then that would have been the option I would have gone for - although to be fair I did't try too hard as I always wanted an excuse to get 763Ms! I didn't want a refurbish (+ inconvenience) and potentially not be happy with the match to the original shadow finish - the firm I asked for a quote recommended doing front and rear & I didn't want a perfectly good rear refurbished.

Has anyone managed a colour match on these? If it was not for the shadow finish it would now just needed laquering - so a shame to have to spoil the wheel with a refurbish.

When it comes to getting rid of my 666Ms do you think this approach is the best option - sell them separately with one in need of TLC rather than as a set where one will need a refurbish?

Here's a before view:

Wheel Paints online do a smoked paint that matches very well in my experience.

That's a good shout - I'll give that a try as I may as well get the wear out of the tyres before I sell the 666Ms and a touch up will do the job for now. I got a good deal on a hardly used set of genuine M Performance 763Ms complete with new Michelin Alpin rubber so I will stick those on when it gets cold and repair the 666M at my leisure. When it warms up I'll pop the 666Ms back on and wear the tyres out and then stick MPS4Ss on the 763Ms and keep them as summer wheels (no rim protection on the Alpins). Then I will sell the 666Ms and possibly get some 763M copies as my winter set as the Alpins will last me years as I live in the South West... That's my current plan anyway - once I have sold my 666Ms I don't think the upgrade will have cost me anything

Try reinventing the wheel in Tewkesbury- they did mine and really good finish. They repair the wheels for Bentley and McLaren in Bristol.
