Just look at how proud we are, all 3 guys standing next to this hot-mess of a car in all it's glory, and we could not be happier!

That car, be it what it may, launched my life-long obsession with the brand!

I once loved my 1984 Toyota SR5 this much in 1996. It too was a hot mess!

Where did you grow up? The Euro 315 had single headlights not dual headlights like yours (and USA only got 320i).

You had the altima and camery two door (solara?) painted the same great maaco blue?? LOVE IT.

The e46 330xi manny tranny/sport is ass and titty! Not many of those around and that one was clearly loved by it's original owner.

... well, that love fest did not survive for that long. With the first surprise snow storm of the season, I was caught right in the thick of it on my way home from work ... on my performance summer tires. What a night mare! A pleasant and mostly uneventful 20 minute commute turned into a 4.5 hour nightmare, bringing me within inches of disastrous conditions with several motorists and trucks!

Needless to say, the very next day I was shopping for an xDrive BMW.

.

No...needless to say you should've bought a set of snows! I live in the stereo- typically snowiest city in the US.. my 330i with a set of snows is actually a better car to drive in the white stuff than my 2002 wry wagon (also with snows) was!

We need to stop perpetuating this nasty falsehood that you NEED awe to drive in the snow, or the rear wheel drive BMW will go the way of the manual trans BMW in the US! Snow tires should be mandatory in snowy parts of the country... we would all benefit from less traffic jams, less accidents and lower insurance rates. /rant off //

....

That said I love your post and your automotive history, and passion for these cars!!

Isn't it amazing how you can feel the dna in these cars? When I drive my cousins fantastic e28 525i or my aunts e34 525i (sport, stick, 280k miles!!) then get into my e90, I can feel the distinct genetic similarities, it's awesome and even felt it in a 2013 x1 that I test drove.

Just read page 2...

As far as the order for the 328i and M3 goes, don't all CCA members pay the same price, isn't it similar to the way GM employees all get the same price on new cars? Thanks for the insight.

Great write up buddy! I thought I was the only sicko in this world that loved this brand and specifically this series in the brand. I was a truck guy from 16-32. Then I picked up my first Bimmer......07 335i coupe. This car blew my mind. Low, fast and it handled exceptionally well! I mean coming from trucks it felt like a slot car! I learned everything about that car. Got a K/Dcan cable, JB4, DP's, intercooler and some more goodies! These all made the car hang longer on the throttle. Die heat soak DIE! I became a fanatic about BMW 3 series. I worked on my car myself because I HATE dealerships. Replaced my turbos, coded updated ECU's and added every one of those upgrades. Then the itch started........M///! The power, the styling, the feel......! Eventually I traded the 335 for a 2011 M3 Coupe!!!!!! Like you said, I mis that instant torque and clean throttle but this M met my expectations!!!!!! I love this beast even more than my 335. I found it heavy and sloppy at first but once the foot gets use to the new throttle and engine sounds.......GET THE F@$K OUT OF THE WAY. Your write up is totally relatable and what I personally think this forum is for! Love to catch ya at a BMW meet or something and talk 3 series with ya and then put the smack down on your M4 with my baby!

Awesome write up. My father owned a 370z for about six months then recently switched to a Mazda 3 hatchback, exactly like yours. I'll now stop giving him shiat. Enjoyed your write up. You should capture it in print for your kid(s) down the road. They'd enjoy it, even if not right away...

Falafel Combo awesome post. You did a great job of evoking my same exact feelings with my initial love affair with BMW including the lows when the FXX chassis came out. Your post brings back so many memories like the time when I was a junior in high school and one of my buddies got an E36 328is for his first car, just riding in the passenger seat made me fall in love.

The way it hugged the curves and purred away with that silky smooth in line 6 had me addicted. I died off for an E36 but instead I got a Lexus. I was involved in an accident and got another. Not a bad car but they're weren't a BMW. When I was finally able to get a BMW, I ended up with an E46. Man it's been an addiction since.

+1!! My exact thoughts on both parts! Drive BMWs the way they're meant to be - RWD, and get winter tires. Great story.

lol great read op. Seriously felt bits and pieces of myself in there so I have some understanding of them feels.

I'm currently on my Mazda3 stage, 2006 (brought in 2009 used fully loaded) and I don't intend in replacing while having my own F80 dreams. I see EVERY day lately (someone in my neighborhood has a M4). It pains me too with my own student loan curse and lacking in financial power.

I hope to be in your shoes someday too and I hope you don't go out to buy another car
