Sounds good... however with the C63 having different editions that churn out 501+hp, I expected just a little more than an 11 hp increase, 480 would have been nice. But there are always tunes out there...

No it's not.

My buddy brought his high precision scales from work one day at the track last year. We weighed both our cars. His (E46 6MT, premium sound, full tank) came in just over 150lbs lighter than mine (E92, DCT, iDrive, premium sound, full tank). We were both quite surprised with the results that we re-weighed them just to be sure.

My 2008 335i dyno'd 278whp stock and 336whp on 91 octane JB4 ($479 tune). That's 58whp on a tune, roughly equating to 65hp, give or take.... considering drive train loss, 336whp is certainly in the range of ~375hp on just a tune.

The difference from stock to tuned is what matters, so maybe you came across someone making 310whp on a tune, but their original hp figures would've been around 240-250whp. Go to the 335 forums and find those figures... I don't recall seeing anyone making that little of an increase, ever (30-40whp on a JB4 or Cobb, for instance).

Since we are literally talking a nearly 400hp car on just a tune (335i), I want to encourage the M3/M4 world. This is going to be a 500+hp car on a tune with a bolt on or two. Figure catless downpipes, if four cats exist, will add 25-30whp and a FMIC and intake will add another 25-30whp. A tune on top of that? Good grief.

The only mention worth making is that the 335 had terribly restrictive attributes, while the M3/M4 might be pushing it a bit more and already have a fairly efficient intake, fmic, tune, etc.

Looking forward to a curb weight, and believe it or not, MPG figures. Could never justify the E90 DCT based on terrible fuel economy. With the turbo 6 we might see high 20's on the highway.
I hadn't looked at the N54 gains recently. Your car basically nailed what BMS got from their test car with just a tune (about 65whp).

I've been following the N55s more since that's what I've got and the single turbo just isn't quite as easily tapped. BMS got around 310whp with just a tune (30whp'ish). I guess I should've snapped up the '12 335is instead of the F30 335i I ended up with... (I haven't dyno'd mine but my butt dyno says I got closer to 30whp like their car and not 60+ whp with their JB4 Stage 2 for the N55)

As a note, the BMS folks and the community have come to the conclusion that the 550 engine is a detuned version of the M5/M6 and threw on a really safe tune and got 25whp out of it. Not sure what that may mean for the new M3/M4 though.

Still reserving judgement until I see some comparos...barely. Still not blown away by ANYTHING I've seen yet. Today is no different. It is encouraging to FINALLY see some (underrated for sure) numbers but not on board yet. Secretly hoping this car will be epic even if it makes my car forgotten. Doubting this will come to fruition but waiting patiently to see for certain.

+1000

425hp and 500Nm will just not cut it against it's key opposition.

I am picking minimum 450hp and 550Nm, despite what BMW say it is.

Haha, that's great.

He basically said "too much powa!". I laughed when he tried to subjectively quantify how much hp it had and referred to it as a Mustang GT with intake and exhaust at each wheel.

I am really looking forward to more details tomorrow. Something to sweeten the power numbers from the engine today. I really want my M4 to be a leap ahead from the E92 I had.

Jason, you're the man. I knew it, BMW need this car to be epic and low weight is how you do it. Thank you BMW M for ( as it sounds ) living up to my faith in you. I'm busy writing the check for an F80 now

Bingo. AutoBild mentioned ages ago there would be a sort of "competition package" bumping the power to at least 450hp. The question is - whether as part of LCI or earlier? But the trick is widely known - the F30 has been released without LED blinkers. Why?
