From what i can tell almost everyone who has CCBs are lease, so none of them keep them longer then necessary. I would take an educated guess and say if you street, CCBs basically never need to be replaced unless something hits it. Even the steel brakes on the F8x last past 100k w/ stock pads. Granted the brake dust is like armageddon but hey... not everyone cares.

I have a 2015 M3 that I bought slightly used that came w/ CCB. I have 32,000 mi with no issues or visible wear on the rotor sensors, which is expected since they have not been tracked. I also bought the Racing Brake conversion rotors, which I throw on for track use and put the CCBs back on for daily non-winter driving, since I only do 1 or 2 track weekends per year so far. I plan on keeping the car relatively long-term, so I think this is the best option, given that CCBs came on the car. I did not have any recoding done. I did not notice MDM kicking in unnecessarily/erroneously. For me and my situation, prob not worth the cost of having recoded, since I am not knowledgeable about doing that myself.
Regardless, I did have an issue w/ the RB rotors. My fronts both cracked at one of the holes in each curved array (the cross-drilled holes in the slots) after only one track weekend. After 5 months of pleading to them, they finally sent me replacement rings at no cost. I used Carbotech XP10s. There was a lot of pad deposit on all the rotors. I am avoiding using them again. Dweezil -- and anyone else who may have similar experience -- how are their track pads? I cannot find any other manufacturer that makes iron-worthy track duty pads the size of these CCB calipers. Carbotech made them custom, which I thought was awesome, but they just don't play nice with this iron. |

I myself had issues with the RB replacement set up and had to send it back. I no longer track the car. CCB seems to be holding up well. I did have to replace the pads once at round 30k miles with about 30 track days on them. I ended up getting two sets of pads for the price of one when I bought new rotors. I’m selling the car and have an extra set of pads that I will give a great discount to anyone who wants them.

The micro level cracking on the rotor surface as seen in the pic attached off a new M3 - completely normal correct? I'm curious if it presents similarly on all CCBs or if it varies where some appear to be smoother than others?

My M4 from november 2015 has about 90k km (56k miles). Computer says I need to replace the front and rear brakes after 240k KM (140k miles). Only issue is decolorization of the calipers and BMW doesn’t repain but instead gave me a quote to replace the gold calipers for about 3000 euro.

Thoughts on why calipers got discolored? Was it too much heat? |

Something something about them being anodized and that BMW does not repaint calipers but at the same time they told me to contact a body shop work and ask for a quote. The problem now is having the exact same colour. The colour is believed to be Matt Phoenix Yellow (code YF12) but if the calipers are actually anodized there is no way that a refinish will make them look as original.

I contacted Brembo a while ago and this was their response: The coating used at the BMW M caliper has an oxidation as a base layer and on top a liquid paint. This paint can change its color if it is being confronted with higher temperatures. The paint code is GOLD 1PR (no correspondence to Pantone references etc..). Unfortunately the paint code GOLD 1PR does not provide us more information if it only used internally by Brembo. On their website they state also 5 reasons as to why not the use repainted calipers: https://www.brembo.com/en/company/ne...alipers-brembo |

As for cause of the discoloration I wonder what the biggest factor was: 1 - heat cycles 2 - brake or wheel cleaner as u mention 3 - road contaminants, salt, as daily car Any one else seeing caliper discoloration? |

I want to know if this is a generic problem with the CCB's that start having problems after 3 years or so. Maybe we should start a new thread with a poll. |

The importer of Brembo Belgium has contacted me with the following information (translated to English):
"We are the importer of Brembo racing and we have received your inquiry from Brembo. The paint code is an internal code and Brembo does not want calipers to be repainted therefore they will not give provide the correct code". IMHO this is f*cked up considering how much I paid for the CCB's and after a couple of years I get this discolorization and in order te resolve this I need to pay about 3000 euro for a new set of calipers. Imagine the same was done with wheels, then the world would go crazy but apparently it is totally accepted for brake calipers. The only alternative solution is to find a shop that will try to match the colour of the gold calipers as good as possible and in the worst case scenario buy a new set of calipers, or I would need to find salvaged parts that are still in a pristine condition. |

I'd Make a warranty claim to Brembo and or BMW. Can u park the car for a few weeks? Pull the calipers off and ship them to Brembo, demand that they repaint or replace. CCBs are a near $9,000 option in the US so I wouldn't accept no for an answer. If Brembo won't budge then push the issue with BMW, or maybe start with BMW. Either Brembo , bmw corporate or the dealer needs to make an accommodation. These brakes just cost too much not to be backed up by the manufacturer. |
