Continuous cranking no start, stop ignition cycle then starts right up

Hey Fellas,
My 2016 F80 has had this problem happen twice. I go to start the car and it will continuous crank (nice and health crank, not slow or anything) and won't start. After about 3-4 seconds I stop cranking and hit the ignition button again and it starts right up. Both times it's happen it's been considerably cold, below freezing. After the first time I called the service manager at my local bmw dealer (Tim at Circle BMW) and he said he never heard of it happening before and he wouldn't bother bringing it in. Now, it just happened again today. I am wondering if anyone else has had this happen and what the hell is causing it. It's still got 30K left on the warranty so It's not a big deal I just want to know if it's worth bringing it in. Thanks guys

Bring it in and let them look at it. Doesn’t seem right. Use that warranty.

Yeah, It's just annoying when it's something so intermittent. The whole "hooked it up to the scanner and no codes came up, couldn't get it to do it" crap drives me crazy. I've read wild stories of spun crank hubs. It's 30 degrees outside it certainly isn't vapor lock. I know someone is considering suggesting it.

One of the crank or cam shaft position sensors could be failing.

It might be a pain, but if you video tape with your phone or go pro, you can catch it and then show the dealer/technician. I had a problem with my e60 radio that the dealer could not replicate, but when I showed the video the next time I brought it in, they were able to keep it a little longer and got it to happen on them, and then were able to fix it.

I dropped it off today, hopefully something comes up in the CPU since it's only been 3 days since the last time it happened. I'll keep everyone posted, I suspect it a crank or cam position sensor just strange nothing popped up on the info screen on the car for a no start. Plus it was like -8F today in N.J. and it didn't happen so I doubt it's cold related.

Got it back today, apparently the computer thought someone was trying to steal the car. They updated the software. I'd be surprised if that's really the problem but we will find out in coming months

Lol.. like the thief is only going to crank the car once.

Did they actually say there is a known issue with your current software that is fixed in the one they applied?

Did this solve the problem then? Someone tried to jack your car?

Try changing the battery on the key fob and make sure the key is on the right side of the ignition. I think it's more of the case when fob is close by not close enough to the receiver. They did the software update but it has happened 1-2 times since

Any update on this or anyone else having the issue? Mine did this for the first time today and the only thing I changed was installing a Turner OCC.
