Bootmod3 tuning with MMI installed

Hi all,

Thinking of tuning my car with Bootmod3, and was curious whether I should expect any issues since I have an MMI installed to add wireless CarPlay to my iDrive 4 system.

BimmerCode works just fine, but obviously engine and gearbox tunes go a bit further than that.

Would love to hear from anyone who is using Bootmod3 with an MMI installed.

Thanks!

No probs at all. They're independent systems. I added CarPlay after BM3.

Have you done any flashing since installing CarPlay?

I had an issue with my MMI that prevented BimmerCode from working (it got stuck during the initial module scan) that was resolved by updating the MCU firmware. No issues with BimmerCode since this update.

I had flashed through BM3 previously.
Kubax did my coding, MDM and CarPlay.
I flashed BM3 and XHP afterwards no probs, over and over.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you have an LCI and had CarPlay coded in, rather than an MMI?

I had to install an aftermarket box in my car for CP.

As previously said, they are independant systems. You should be fine.

Intresting.... I think "since I've updated the MCU in my Andream unit", my bm3 flex fuel module is showing 0% ethanol when I check it through the bm3 software or RPM Guage display.

Doubtful this is his problem. Here's why:
I reviewed their install instructions. Andream intercepts (middle mans) the MMI and display signals. There is no connection to the CANBUS. Some optical A/V and the Aux Input are moved over to their "quadlock" plug.

BM3 flash and all plug-in E% sensors work on the CANBUS. If there's a problem with your ethanol percentage readings it's more likely that your E% Sensor is on the fritz. If it's not the sensor then something is messing with (overwriting) the E% value on the bus network.

However, Andream has to read CAN data as well otherwise you wouldn't be able to control it with the the joystick or steering wheel controls and it wouldn't be able to detect reverse.

I was surprised that it didn't have a CANBUS connection. It seems to trigger R View when the backup camera activates (separate plug), and the other controls are in the control panel intercepts (to the "console" component I think). Take a look at the install manual where the plugs get configured and let me know what you think.

It definitely works with the CAN Bus. This is also why the original andream firmware prevented the use of bimmercode

Yep I too am pretty sure it’s on the CANBUS since I had BimmerCode issues (resolved with MCU update) only after installing the MMI.

Hence why I’m here asking if anyone that ACTUALLY HAS AN MMI installed is successfully using BM3.

“Should be fine” isn’t that helpful.

My weird thing is that bm3 connects and logs data, (I haven't tried to do a flash yet). But the Tach ethanol Guage has stopped working. So when I send PFT a video of the status led flashing inside their module, they told me that something must be disconnected because it shows that it's not receive data. So I'm not too sure what to try honostly. The dashboard shows a fault on the sensor, which doesn't really tell me anything.

Also bimmer link app works perfect.

For anyone that stumbles on this thread, I was indeed able to flash bootmod3 while my MMI is installed. Flashed the Stage 0+ Competition tune to start, poppy and crackly!

Annoyingly had the GTS flash fail multiple times at 91%, then the stock flash did the same thing. Changing computers got me a successful stock trans flash thank goodness.

Also of interest, no problem with OBD Agent on an M1 Mac (that was the second computer I tried to get my trans flashed again).
