42k miles and cracking, was noticed on my last inspection.

Not sure if I'm going to tackle this switch of these busing or not. Not sure if they are pressed into the diff or will they pull out with a screwdriver and a little patience.

Any brave soldiers already tackle this?

It's very likely pressed in. You'll need a press or tooling to remove and install.

You could also drill the rubber, then use a saw to cut through the sleeve to remove the compression. Then it comes out easy. Still have to press the new one in.

Baum tools makes a tool just for this bushing so that you don't need a press to remove and install.

So fortunately/or unfortunately all covered under warranty. Unfortunately because dealer installed the old rubber bushing which was replaced in ETK by new polyurethane bushing.

Why hasn't this platform figured out a simple cost effective solution for this yet? The VAG group has drivetrain inserts up the yingyang for practically every platform to limit movement, stiffen the mount, and maximize long-term OE bushing life span for a few dollars, all without inducing much vibration...

This is sad.

I have the powerflex black diff bushing and poweflex street for the fronts. Only noticeble noise is stop and go, which is minimal. No added vibrations, definitely one of the best mods I've done. My oem was cracked at 21k miles. I got 10k+ on the powerflex no issues. Feels alot better on track and no more thud/play especially in sport+ applying on and off throttle inputs.

You can tackle it yourself without a press, however the exhaust and rear subframe need to come out to access the diff carrier. It'll be a painful process without a lift.

What year is your car? I first saw this thread a few weeks ago and put my car up on a lift to personally take a peek at the diff bushings. My car is at 44k+ and they looked almost new with no leakage. But I am curious if the failed diff bushings being reported may possibly correlate to specific model years. My car is a '17 with a Nov 16 production date....

Mine is a 2015 and out of warranty.

If the fix requires a full drop of the diff cradle I might upgrade the rear sway while doing this job.

Anything other maintenance or upgrades to make this job more worth it.

Yes - you could consider adding TMS dual mount diff plate c/w 2 x OEM poly bushes [BMW part # 33178094690]

Mine was cracked at 34K miles. the dealer didn't ask for replacement and told
me it is ok not a problem at the time my BMW warranty was still valid.

I believe this has to be replaced by BMW warranty because BMW insured 100K miles component failure. and what the tear and wear degration is all included in
100Kmiles cap. what BMW warranty didn't;t cover is about all items need periodic services and replacements.

now this issue is flaged again. `bmw dealer asked for 535 quid for replacement which I refused to pay because during my warranty period, the issue was found and they didn't;t mention to replace it.

People said BMW F10 series car has bad design of diff bush, and cracked easily but my point is BMW warranty must cover it it sounds like warranty insurance didn't have a complete list of what to cover and what not to cover. if you insist
this is a product defect, it will be replaced under warranty.

what are the symptoms of a crack rear diff? I noticed a slight vibration when going fast (~70-80mph), but I recently change to a new (used) set of rims and not sure if it's the wheels that's out of balance

I have at 29K miles, will have a service visit soon. Does dealer typically check these kind of stuff?
