LOL, battery dead, how the hell i get in the trunk?
So the damned lithium battery is dead. Front terminal post doesn't work.
Can't get in the trunk... no back seat pass through.. because GTS. I assume the car is totaled? Any suggestions? |

I would call a BMW car dealer and ask them WTF were they thinking because there should be a solution. Especially since that was an expensive car.

The Lithium batteries can go into a charge protection mode when the SOC drops too low.
If you have it hooked up to the front terminal posts (which do directly route back to the battery without interruption) with a LiPo charger you should be able to hit the reset button, which effectively unlocks the battery. Here's a forum link, hopefully this works out: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1792105

This has happened to me. Connecting a charge to the front terminals doesn't do a thing.
What does work however is to connect jumper cables from a running car to the engine bay terminals. Then you can open the trunk and windows and charge the battery |

I thought that bricked modules. Is that if you charge it there?

I have personal experience where this HAS worked for me, but i am a data point of one, so take that with a grain of salt OP. I would hate to see you fry your system

When this happened to me I tried the charger and the running car jump but neither worked. What did work, oddly enough, was taking the entire battery out of my old Porsche 911 and jumping it that way. Opened right up. Not really sure why the running car jump didn't work but this way did.

I had this happen when I installed LCI tails. I closed the trunk with the battery disconnected. Used a jump pack for power and it worked immediately with my fob.
Anything different with the GTS WRT jump starting?

I doubt the GTS is different than the regular M
Also, I think the difference between a charger being able to restart the battery has a lot to do with how dead the battery is. I suspect if it's only a little dead then it's easier to reboot it, but if it's completely dead as it was in my case, you need to connect a battery/jumper cables |

When mine died I did the following:
- opened the door with the key mechanically - opened the hood and jumped it at the front with my x3. Turn off the alarm. Car went crazy. Everything electronic was reset since the battery died. - drove it for 20-30 mins then parked it where I can trickle charge it - trickle charged from the front terminals for over a day. Use a proper li ion charger. Or the bmw one. No issues since. |

Buy a charger for lithium batteries, with a reset function, reset, charge it and you will have it working again.
Is very difficult to kill the battery of the bmw m4. |

In the past I remember reading about people having manual workarounds like not locking the back seats all the way or wedging some type of cloth in the seat hooks so that they could still open them in the event of a dead battery.

But he was also very good at remembering when he did that. Because getting in an accident while having unlatched seats is an easy way to hurt someone due to flying, heavy debris entering the cabin. He always remembered to undo it when we went for rides and had large things back there.
