I laugh everyday at the "fans" of this thing. What a Joke. The car and BMW at the moment are laughingstocks. |

There are 24 pages of hate in this thread. Every g80 thread has a few pages at the most. Just shows how many people actually like this car.

People can spend their money however they want, but let's be honest - if someone is spending a large amount of money on something, it needs to at least LOOK somewhat good...which the G80/G82 are the exact opposite. |

Very happy to get in on this epic thread!
Subjective = based on or influenced by personal feelings, tastes, or opinions. Sedan clan is right in terms of opinions of this cars’ looks being being “subjective.” Subjectively speaking this car reminds me of the movie cars! |

I owned a C6 Vette when the C7s came out, never liked the edgy look of the C7. Now I’ve owned two C7s.
Open minded I might also get used to the looks of the G80/82 but the weight and performance capabilities have to be there, but somehow a lot of the exterior looks like cheap tacked on pieces.

I would say the change from C7 to the C8 is more like what is happening. However, unlike the Corvette history where the mid engine setup was already being pushed by its old designer, the G8x removed the history of what BMW has always been. At the very end of the day, that is the problem with the G8x in general. And no, just because they shove a vertical grill on, doesn't mean they are retaining the history. It's complete BS they think we would buy into that as no old BMW vertical grill stretched from the top of its hood down to the bottom. Old BMW grill isn't 40% of it's damn front end. History is what makes us, what makes a company, or person who they are today. BMW threw all of it away for one generation because they want to attract buyers who would immediately jump ship to another brand when a better opportunity comes around..

We all know there’s a fine line when you own these kinds of cars, of “keeping it classy” while avoiding douchebaggery. I feel like the G8x was created for that customer that is incredibly secure with their own douchebaggery. This is admittedly a subjective opinion.

Their is no flow or cohesion to the overall design. Don’t like the change to the kink, but I could have accepted that. Frankly, even with the F80, as far as the grill goes, I don’t like the idea of how easy it is for rocks or debris to get through and cause serious engine damage, but it looks classy and refined and I like the look with the black optics package. With the G80, you’ve got even bigger gaps, it looks like crap and unless they come up with an optical illusion package, nothing is going to make that grill look better. We’ve got a Lexus RX350 for my wife and trips and when we got the 2017, I didn’t like the big grill on the regular model, but actually liked the F sport grill and we went with that (also black instead of the regular chrome). But the larger grill looks okay on an SUV. I even think the LC500 with the big grill looks cool. The BMW is an eyesore. You don’t see Mercedes making such ugly grills - I really like the look of the C63s AMG coupe (I actually think it looks better than the M4). I really don’t know what BMW was thinking with this design. Nothing wrong with making bold changes. But for god sake, make it look good!!!! It’s not like I didn’t want the G80/82 to be a good looking car - I was waiting for an AWD M3/4, just didn’t realize it would be so ugly when BMW finally made one. Hell, if the new G80 came in the i8 body, I’d be first in line for a pre-order. To me that was a drastic design change I loved. It’s just that the car had shit performance. It’s just disappointing that BMW could ever approve such an ugly design of the G80/82, I almost didn’t purchase my 2017 m3C (bought it new in late 2018), in anticipation of an AWD M3/4, now I’m even more glad I did. I got threatened with a ban for saying that an M3 with "a 'smoother' auto transmission, less harsh suspension and better acceleration from a stop light already exists and is called an M440i xDrive. Many people who buy an M3 for the badge and complain to BMW about these things could have saved themselves a lot of money".
I had numerous technical posts modified, deleted or moved to other threads. I stopped reading the G80 forum completely weeks ago... it's basically a waste of life and there's no new information that isn't just marketing fluff. I don't care about grills. I care about how the car will drive and BMW are curiously silent about that. Everything we know makes me think that this is an Audi RS5 under the hood with Mustang/Camaro/Lexus aesthetics. The only thing I know for sure so far is that the people this car is being marketed to aren't the kind of company I want to be associated with. BMW drivers already have a bad enough rep - and images of F&F coked up 20-somethings screaming at their M4 steering wheels and driving in reverse don't appeal to me. I was pleasantly reassured to find this thread and discover that many of the people whose posts and opinions I have appreciated over the last many years had a similar experience. I dearly hoped that the G8x would be the car I wanted to own next. I am far from convinced, but don't see many alternatives. Too big. Too heavy. Too generic. Too ugly. Expected a ~1500kg RWD ultimate driving machine with 6MT/DCT but was instead given an ultimate pig.

Some preliminary observations on weight difference:
-F8x CFRP driveshaft: 28lbs(12.7kg), reported 40% weight saving from steel shaft(21.16kg)= 8.46kg weight saving -F8x CFRP trunk vs. F3x steel trunk= 5kg weight saving(from technical data) -F8x CFRP strut brace (1.5kg) vs. G8x strut brace 15lbs (6.8kg)= 5.3kg saving -F8x stock exhaust 26.7lbs(12.11kg) vs. G8x 50+lbs (22.7kg+)= 10.59kg saving -Add around 3kg x 4=12kg(26.5 lbs) each corner for bigger tires & wheels -B58 had a weight gain of 8kg (18lbs) vs. N55. Expect more like 15kg weight increase from S58 vs. S55 due to bigger turbos and added coolers -Getrag 7DCI600(79kg) vs. ZF 8HP76 (87+kg)=8kg difference Totaling around 64.35kg(142 lbs) weight gain. It really makes one wonder where they managed to gain 300 lbs on G8x RWD 6MT models compared to a F8x DCT comp. G2x chassis is lighter, so logical assumption would be 50-75 lbs increase comes from heavier seats (heated and ventilated), interior trim and the rest (75-100 lbs) likely from heavier suspension. Or it may as well be all from interior trims...

Excerpt from the press release of the Kith whatever special edition M4. Tells me a lot about this new direction BMW is taking. It seems they are going for branding and image and no longer about the passion for driving. I am sorry, but I cannot follow them there. I'm out.
