Maintenance Refresh for Lease Takeover
I did a lease takeover last September 2018, that being the 26th month of the cars 36 month lease. So I will only have the car for 10 months, and will be returning it this May, or two months from now.
There is a notification on my dashboard that it is due for service, I brought it in the dealership, and they are charging me $700 to transfer it to my name. Dealership said that if I pay it out of pocket, it will cost around $1,500 for the oil filter, etc. I asked BMWFS and they will charge me $750 penalty if I don't do the service. Since the car will only be with me for two more months, what is the most economical approach? Thanks! |

Edit: maybe never mind, I think the included service may not transfer from original owner (or lessee). |

how many miles are on the car and which service is it? The car will tell you. Most likely oil service but whatever it is, call around to other dealers and ask how much it'll cost for this service. Tell them you are not the original owner, so will be paying out of pocket. It will not be $1,500, that's for sure. An oil change is probably $200 or less at a dealer. Take it in, pay for it, done. Not worth paying the maintenance refresh fee for 2 months. |

these dealers are taking advantage of this new demographic of M car owners that are clueless about maintenance. Judging by some of these posts, i'd be surprised if some of these guys can even find the hood release latch.

Yes, the $700 is the maintenance refresh fee. My car is a 2016 BMW M3. There is only 25,000 miles on the car (very low for a 34 month old car), and I forgot the three services that are due, but the dealer service said it will cost around $1,500, and advised that it is much cheaper to just pay the $700 refresh fee. Just wanted to get some final thoughts here on any alternatives before I throw in this $700. |
