So as always this journey will be...interesting.

But there must be the establishment period first and foremost.
But what you can take from this is that for the competition , adding a CFRP roof like the M3 E92 adds extra cost, look at the M4 and M3? They have completely re-written the rules here in terms of advancement of lightweight technology.

A new era has begun under BMWi and today so it begins for BMW M.
In 2015 it begins for BMW. Which shows how exciting the future will be for all BMW brands.

Welcome to the Carbon Age.

Please tell me they are not using the same hideous seat design that is in the regular 3/4 series.

Ok, someone save me a headache. Is the weight less than 3306 lbs or is the weight 3500 lbs ?

Jason says its 3300 with 90% fuel yet others on this forum keep stating 3500.

Please explain...

It is more likely that the DCT will be standard while the manual transmission will be a no cost option as it is today with the M5 and M6 (and every other Fxx BMW with a manual transmission option in North America).

I'm with you as I honestly didn't think they could pull it off with the ever increasing weight of all their cars. Hats off to them for a great job making it 3300lbs

Woah!
Personally, I feel they should leave all the automatic mumbo-jumbo to the DCT. Kinda defeats the purpose of driving a manual. Rev-matching is a skill that most manual drivers acquire with practice. It's rewarding and fun, I don't want a computer doing it for me...
Agree and disagree.

I love rev matching and I love heel toe shifting. I think people make it out to be some incredible skill though. It really is just practice. Most people can't do it because they have no reason to and don't even understand the need to.

I do hope it's defeatable, but look forward to trying it out and enjoying it at the track when I'm getting tired and could use some smoother down shifts in slow corners. I'll consider it a reasonable alternative to DCT.

I never want to give up my manual, but admit sometimes it would be awesome to have at the track.

Is the auto rev matching defeatable? Rev matched downshifts are part of the fun of driving manual. It would suck if there was no way to go full manual.

I'm waiting for more concrete info. The E92 was a "realistic" 3700lbs. Realistic being optioned how most people would buy the car (basically fully loaded) and with all fluids (after all you need the fluids to run the car...).

Is the M4 going to be 3300lbs DRY with no options and manual cloth seats? Or 3300lbs curb weight with fully loaded options?

Weight specs look great but doesn't anyone worry about the small turbos similar to the 335. I know it's a generalization but at 18.9 psi there is no way the aftermarket gains can be as great as on the 335 from aftermarket tuning.

Obviously not comparing the m3/m4 to the 335 as it will be obviously superior. Just thinking that no way will people see 150-200whp gains on the m3/m4 with tune and fbo due to the already high 18.9psi stock boost if the turbos are the same size as the ones on the 335.

Nope....at least not on my car, but I dont have adaptive drive. I think you can defeat it in comfort mode with adaptive drive.

M5/M6 auto blip in Sport throttle.
Defeated (no blip) in Sport+.

Likely the same here.

BTW - Active Sound is obviously blasphemous and stupid, but you all are worrying about something that doesn't actually have an impact (except in journo mags). It's inaudible and defeatable through coding.

+1. If you go manual you should need to own it!
