iphone x - selected playlist/album keeps resetting

Hi, posting here after doing some searching in this subforum but finding nothing that looks the same.

I got an iphone x when they were released last November. I don't drive the F80 daily, but shortly after getting it noticed some weird behaviors with my selected music.

What happens is this: I go to my music library, select an artist and click the "XXX tracks" selection, to play all music from that artist. If I pick a single album, the same problem manifests.

So, the album or artist starts to play. If I use the arrows on my console to go to the next or prior track, all is fine. If I use my steering wheel to scroll - first I get "Please wait, loading (Or whatever the exact message is) for 5-8 seconds. Eventually the track list will display in my HUD. I pick the next song I want to hear. All is ok. BUT, now if I scroll again, I'm getting that same "loading" message - at which point it loads and all I have are 3-5 tracks available to select.

At this point, if I go back to the idrive media library and try to select artist/album again, I am presented with the "Please wait, loading" message once again - once that's done I am back to the media selection parameters of ALL Artists ALL Songs.

So infuriating - I just want the music functions to work like they did for the first 3 years.

In summary - It's like the car needs to refresh my entire media library every time I try to get to the next song via steering wheel controls. Once it happens the first time, then it makes no difference if I go through my tracklist via HUD or idrive - the problem is persisting.

iphone x running ios 11.2.6
2015 F80 built in 4/2015.

Hope there's a simple solution that doesn't involve, replace your idrive.

Really - nobody else is having something similar to this where the selected artist/album is not retaining after tracks are changed via steering wheel?

Maybe car needs to visit the dealership.

That is odd...

I have the problem of my M3 constantly restarts from the A of my overall playlist of my iPhone X. If I don't drive my M back to back it always does it. I never had it before jumping from the Porsche PCM to the BMW iDrive. It's suddenly doing it too.

I assume it might be either an glitch or iOS 12 introducing bugs. My best suggestion is to bring it into a dealership, tell them and get them to fully update firmware and everything in between to fix it.

You'll need to wait for an update for iDrive probably. Phone compatibility is one of the things they update for. My faith in BMW's infotainment software capability is near zero though.

Had this in my iPhone X as well, super annoying.

A soft reset did the trick, since then my CarPlay layout is rocksolid!

Idrive soft reset or phone soft reset?

Can you give me the steps? Will try it next time I am in the car.
