Sakhir Orange
Just took delivery of my 2016 M3 this week, and I had to post about SO. I had originally ordered in MG, but decided to change mid-stream.
After living with the color for a bit, I have to say that I really love it. I haven't seen any factory color from any manufacturer shift so much in different light - it really is nuts. Goes from a deep red, to rust color to full-blown orange based on light and time of day. The challenge is - you can't get an accurate picture to show people what you mean. That being said, if you are considering the color but haven't seen it in person, I would encourage you to take the plunge! |

Under what conditions is the colour that brown rusty one? Overcast? Low light? In a underground car park?
I like when its metallic bright orange and bright sexy red like these pics. |

I would say that the 'rust orange' seems to come out at dusk - still a very cool color. Thanks, |

I've seen a few SO M4 and M6 in the flesh and the colour is absolutely stunning. It really pops in the real world amidst other more mundane cars .

I'm leaning SO (I want something a bit different as my current car is AW and in my opinion it looks too passive for an M) if I can swing the M3 next year but sometimes when dirty it looks a bit dull. But then again I've only seen it once in the flesh and it was on a shiny car driving by at 80 mph. The rest have just been photos.
I did see a Ford Taurus in this orangey color and I'm wondering if it's close to SO. Has anyone seen it? It's called Bronze Fire. |

Even dirty (mine is a daily driver that is currently parked outside and hasn't been washed in a month+), it looks clean from ~5 feet out. You can only see dirt spots up close. I did not expect this color to be SOooooo low maintenance (pun intended). Quote:
You really have to see BMW SO color in sheet metal, under different lighting conditions, to fully appreciate it. Make an effort to seek one out at a dealership, if you are not sure that it's a color for you. a

OP,
I also had initially ordered in MG, but changed at the last minute to SO. Did ED in late August and really am glad I made the switch. My family loves it as well. I did initially have come concerns after reading threads that many people did not think it looked orange/red ever, that it was always penny (copper) colored. It must reflect differences in people's vision since it definitely looks a reddish orange to me in anything but direct sun (when it really looks bright orange). I am in MA as well -hopefully my car will arrive soon. I thought I was going to have the only 2016 SO M3 for a while but I am guess I was wrong. Are you in the Boston area? I've had my SO/SO M3 for almost a year and have to agree that it changes colors almost daily depending on the lighting. Mid-day FL summer sun brings out the brightest orange with that hint of yellow, while clouds/night brings out the darker hues.
I get a ton of compliments daily and look back after parking every time...couldn't be happier!

I love SO... When I started looking at M4s, I was absolutely torn on the colors. Then enters in a SO M3 I see rolling around the city and my jaw hit the floor. I had to have it but in the M4. I waited and bugged my CA to immediately let me know when the production hiatus ended for the color and I'd submit my order. The rest is history.

The SO paintwork really complements the angles and curves on the M4. I love looking at it from the front and rear quarter views. The way the color tone shifts across the panels is mesmerizing.
