All of you who think the Kia Stinger GT starts at $50k are on crack. The base price for the GT w/ the top shelf twin turbo V6 is $38,350 and comes pretty well optioned with Brembo brakes LED headlights, 19” rims w/ Michelin pilot sport summer tires, etc. $50k is fully loaded:

$40k for that car? Nope...

I may not have Bimmerpost crypto investor type of money, but I still have class and dignity.

(i am too superficial to drive that car. At least my bicycle doesn't look cheap and isn't a kia)

I don't mind the car but I have two big issues with the Kia Stinger.

I HATE the rear end of this car. Why they decided to wrap the lights around to the side of the car is beyond me. When I test drove the car during LA Auto Show, I didn't feel the weight of the car but I definitely felt the size and the length of the car. That was annoying.

Snobby people care about materialistic things like brand image.

Kia is not a brand image many people may want to portray.

Same reason why some women will never wear a Michael Kors watch or carry a Coach purse.

Yeah, I think a lot of people buy BMW just for the badge.

To be honest, for the lower tier BMW's there are a lot better options out there for the price. But the "prestige" that comes with MB and BMW and Lexus badges help them justify the fact that they are getting a mediocre car for the money.

To be honest, I spent 80k on my M3 and I'm not even sure THAT was worth it. But, I will say that the Kia looks to be worth every penny.

I wish they would update their badge and make it prettier, though.

I've never driven the Stinger but I would highly highly highly doubt it has the driving dynamics of an M3 or even a 340.

The BMW logo feels a lot better to be behind than the Acura logo.

Is an $80k M3 worth the extra 1,2,3,4,5+ years you just postponed getting your realistic dream car?

Interesting you don’t refer to the Ford as an Econobox race car. Not saying you should have but, that's kind of what the Ford is, if we leave performance out of it.

Ah, but there is no BMW or Audi equivalent of the Focus RS sold in the US either. In fact, as two-box hatchbacks go, the Focus RS is the most powerful one you can get in the states. That fact increases its appeal significantly. If the Stinger were coming into a market landscape similar to that, I suspect the excitement would be amped up commensurately.

As I said earlier, had they come to the table with a turbo V8 - approaching 500hp let's say - that would have made a big impact. And I think this is true even if the price starting price of this hypothetical flagship model was $50k-$53k. Sure, you can get over 500hp from a fastback hatchback, fastback sedan, or traditional sedan today, so this still wouldn't be quite like the Focus RS (and Golf R and Civic Type R) segment. But, you have to really pony up the cash to get there.

The thing is, if Hyundai/Kia want their fledgling Genesis brand to be taken seriously, they need flagship products that compete in the performance category. A turbocharged 500hp V8 - or a V6, for that matter, whatever - makes perfect sense under the hood of the G80, G90, and upcoming GV80 and GV90. It would also make a good fit for a high performance flagship G70 and indeed for our hypothetical high performance Kia Stinger (perhaps detuned slightly from the Genesis models for branding purposes). Or maybe they instead use hybrid assist to make bigger power. Whatever the case, to me, they need something by the end of the decade because the aging 5L naturally aspirated Tau V8 with ~425hp is already outgunned by Mercedes new M256 inline six cylinder and VAG's ~450hp 2.9L twin turbo V6. And when you match it up against the German V8s, the situation goes from bad to worse.

The point is, the Koreans need to get on the ball in this area. They are missing opportunity to offer the complete package and build their credibility.

well, yea. It's a hot hatch and it's all about going fast and having fun. And that's why I like it.

My f80 was cloth seats, no moonroof, no backup camera, no exec package. I think the focus RS has more comfort and convenience features.

If I couldn't afford an f80 and wanted a fast 4 door 4 seats car, i would be shopping for something like a focus rs or sti or civic R

while I agree w the sentiment... if people want to spend money on the badge / particular image... there is absolutely nothing wrong with that
