Had an M4 on order, bought C63 instead

Well --

The test drive got the best of me. I went to the local merc dealer to check out a leftover 2017 C63 Cab they had in stock. Took it for a spin and was absolutely mesmerized by the engine note, interior quality, and general feeling.

I had an F83 on order (without a deposit) and it was expected to be delivered in 2 weeks. Merc knew this and took 15K off the MSRP of the 63 to convert me to an AMG buyer.

Unfortunately, the car has been with my clear film installer since, so i've only gotten about 50 miles of drive time. So far i'm impressed, but after coming from 6 BMW's in a row, i'm a bit uneasy about it so far. Some buyer's remorse, but i think this is going to actually be a great car to own.

Anyone else make the switch?

I prefer the Merc to the F83...not much reason why, just on a feeling. The C63 feels like a better cruiser with a better engine note. I feel like a convertible should be more GT car than race car and, on that, I am more keen on the merc. Nice purchase, that's a lot off!

Sort of my feeling as well. If i were to be getting another sedan, i think i'd opt for the F80 over the C63. But as a vert, this feels very proper

you got the pre face lift? did you see what the changes they did?

merc does this all the time, make massive changes mid cycle and then we owners take massive depreciation. ask me how i know.

after 2 of them, i would never buy another merc again, lease maybe.

check out the new tft displays on the steering wheel controls- 16:00

i did see the update. Didn't really care considering its a lease and getting a new one would mean $500 more in monthly payments.

We buy this car for the engine, not the vertical front grille. $15,000 off is worth the pre facelift model, no?

improved 9 speed new tranny from e63s, complete redo of the interior displays, instrument cluster and nav system screen, new steering wheel and controls.

outside new leds, new grille.

I would say you got exactly what you paid for. First edition buyers going to pay for big depreciation.

btw, I just got a friend 10% off a new x3 xdrive and that was a custom order on a 1st year production, there's discounts on a lot of new cars these days.

We could argue this all day. If you can find more than 10% off a brand new C63 then i would be very very very impressed. Dealers do not want to discount the AMGs

Be very very very impressed:

2 guys 10% off in 2017

https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-c63s-...-discount.html

one guy 10% off 2018, and another 12% off 2018

https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-c63s-...good-deal.html

I remember they were offering 7k off w204 c63's back in the day more than 10% off 60k cars.

Friends were looking at GLA45's and those were being discounted heavily last year.

Plenty of AMG discounts, lol, don't be fooled by sales people. I can tell you it will only be more discounted because lci is coming and it always happens with AMG's. They always fuck over the customers with significant improvements mid cycle, whether it's a complete new engine 6.2---> 5.5 turbo for last gen e63, or a complete new dual clutch tranny, or a revised suspension, or increase hp or a combination of these, etc. vs bmw, releases improved models as separate packages and makes small changes, like idrive updates. Just watch.

Well you just rained on my parade lol. I got 18% off and I'm happy with the deal, considering.

In the end, it's just a lease and the value is still there.

The issue is the AMGs also lease like shit. Residuals suck!

i don't meant to rain on your parade. you got a great deal, just make sure you realize that amg does this every time. it hurts their residuals and the cycle continues, if they changed, their models would lease better for sure. it was smart for you to lease, I bought their cars and learned the hard way.

enjoy your car, it's a looker.

I was warned by a few previous owners. I figured being able to limit my downside with the lease made the most sense.

And with the low payment, if I want out, it should go quickly on swapalease versus eating that initial depreciation.

I'll probably be back in an M car in the Gxx lineup.

BMW does the same with the M lineup as well....I ordered a M4 first year and it was a total letdown. The competition package and they did improve the car...and my car took a big depreciation hit. Look at the new M5, CP is now right around the corner.

Compare lci changes for 3 generations of AMG models vs M.

Look at f80 m3 pre lci and lci- changes are led halo, and rear led lights and upgraded idrive, that's it.

cp is a separate package and is a model trim, it is sold alongside the regular trim at a higher price.

These cars all depreciate, manufacturers can make it worse by making dramatic changes mid cycle, which helps pique interests for new buyers at the expense of dramatically affecting secondary markets.

Congrats OP! I'm looking at the C63 as well... at least until the G80 LCI or CP comes out in a few years. Change of scenery is always nice. Despite a refresh with that model, I'm pretty sure the driving experience is still all smiles... there's always something better or faster, that shouldn't really diminish your enjoyment, which is why envy is a cruel bitch. A discount is a discount and it's still a great vehicle.

Congrats on the new ride OP. Great deal no matter what. I mean for a lease a couple thousand more dollars is like $50 to $100 a month which really is not that much? If a person is trying to budget for an M3 or C63 then I typically question why they are even considering it as a car if money is tight.

I was considering the C63 myself but the fanboy got the best of me. I’ve owned BMW’s much more than Mercedes. My last one was a C230 Kompressor back in 2005 (still have it as a daily). I also preferred the touchscreen and iDrive in the M3. I will say Mercedes feels of better quality throughout and sound system is probably better. Let us know your thoughts once you drive it more too!

As long as the car puts a smile on your face then that’s all that matters. Having a convertible is a great bonus.

Congrats.. i said it in one of my posts earlier that in a test drive its much easier to be charmed by a c63s over a m3/4 . Which is better overall really depends on what you want out of a car and there's no wrong decision mate enjoy !

Definitely agree this looks better than the f83. I’m not a fan of MB but my fiancé’s next vehicle might be a GLC43 Amg only bc I have a buddy that works there and would give me his employee pricing so 68-> 56. And I also know the sales manager doubtful that price would go down so maybe a couple free things like service or so.

It's funny, as i was in the showroom of the MB dealership, none of the other cars did anything for me. This is probably going to be one of those one-off purchases for me. I dont see myself lusting over an E63 like i do for an M5. Or a GLE63s over an X5M

True. The C63 just sounds so much nicer. The M3/4 is a bit deceiving until you open it up and stretch her legs.
