Moving on from M3 to an SUV (help?)
Starting to kick around the idea of moving on from my M3, and considering something a little bigger.
I haven't done any serious research or driven anything yet - so I'm hoping to call upon the vast knowledge of Bimmerpost for some guidance. Here's my first list, with a few initial thoughts about each.

Pics don't do much for me, but I may need to see it in person.
I think it would be hard to go from something that looks great like an M3, to an X3. Quote:
The last batch of F10s could be had for about the same (or less) than an F80.

Stelvio QV, biggest risk, but probably the most fun. Definitely something a little different as well.
I know you dismissed it earlier, but I just had a X3 M40 loaner and it was pretty fun for what it was. Definitely quick enough, especially for SUV standards. |

The X3M is going to be gorgeous.

What are your goals?
It seems like you want to spend a ton of money to try and have a fun SUV and 5 seats are enough, so my suggestions are E63S wagon, Jeep Trackhawk, P100D Model X I've known a couple of people who have tried to go this route and realized the lower powered versions were better for their use cases (e.g. when you have family in the car, you won't be hammering on it, and when you do hammer on it, it's still a porky SUV) |

You are probably right. Quote:
My commute is rather short, I don't drive with family in the car much (but I have to have the capacity), and would love something I can get to the mountains easier in. So I guess goals would be... - Fast - 5 seats - AWD - Foreign - I don't think I can do a wagon... Maybe it's a bad idea to shop now...sort of like going to the grocery store when you're hungry.

I like nicknaz Trackhawk idea as an alternate. Again, I know you said foreign (kind of FCA ). I haven’t driven one, but I’ve checked them out and they look pretty cool in person.

With that said, my friend is selling that setup because he likes his 100d model x more. Instant torque means that unless the 63 is in a lower gear, in the power band and ready to rumble, the Tesla will take it. |

Left over F85 X5M! Killer deals to be had Picked one up in July for the wifey Traded in our 6mo old X3 M40i--too feminine from certain angles, not aggressive enough, interior meh, but an overall great package. We will consider the X3M after it's released and the hype dies down.
BTW, I hope I didn't add to your dissonance with all my questions about your M3's winter setup! I ended up going with the Mich PA4 and I'm about to sell the HREs today and stick with a square 9.5" APEX wheel. Couldn't get over the visual stretch

The P100D is undoubtedly quick, but there are just too many Xs around here for me to get excited about owning one. Quote:

I'm on the same boat, I have a manual M4 but we want to get a sail boat and kids on the way in the next 2-3 years PLUS a potential dog into the mix and we both have small fast cars so I want to look at the Macan GTS and the X5M, she wants a Model S since she's a gas nut, GLC 63 looks good to me too
I share your hatred with the X3 so don't worry you're not alone lol |

That said, I also got tired of the whole race car thing with my M3, so I may not be the best person to talk to. |
