Spotify linked to Connected+ ?
I've been using the Spotify integration in my M4 for 9 months, launching Spotify on my Android phone, then launching the Spotify iDrive app, and I see the album art and can control playlists etc it all worked great.
Last week though, the 12 month subscription to BMW Connected+ ended... and around the same time, the Spotify iDrive app completely died on me. Now when I launch the Spotify iDrive app, I get a blank iDrive screen and nothing happens... but my phone is still paired and plays over the regular linked Bluetooth channel. I don't know if it's a co-incidence that Spotify died on me at the same time, but are these related? I've looked at the BMW Connected+ service description and it doesn't mention anything about Spotify or third party apps, it's just purely navigation stuff that I find less than useless. I haven't updated any firmware or software in the car inbetween it working and not working, so if it's not the Connected+ service, I assume it's a phone side issue. I've seen some other people mentioning Spotify failing but their description of whats happening is very different to what I see, which is literally nothing, a totally blank screen. |

Nope it's not that either - I've just rolled my Spotify app back to an APK from November 6th when I'm sure it worked fine, and I'm still getting a blank Spotify screen in iDrive.
I'll try a few earlier APKs. |

Ok so it was the Spotify software version, they've bricked the app for BMW users some time in October. I just took a version from September and rolled back to that, the Spotify integration in the iDrive unit now works again.

You have to uninstall the Spotify app from your phone, then go to a website which hosts old application installers... I found that the Android Police website has old Spotify installers dating back I don't know how long, but far enough for me! You download the APK file, move it onto your phone and then just click it on your phone to install the old version of the app.
Once you've done that you need to go into the Play Store and disable automatic updates for that individual app so it doesn't overwrite it again with the latest version. Sounds like a right chew on but it's not really, it's mostly a chew on that you have to do this in the first place to make something work that you're paying for and has been broke for at least 2 months now. |

Nope..... had the same issue it is in fact connecteddrive.... trust me... argued with my SA about it only to look like a complete A$$.............. I called bmw paid the 50 bucks, within 10 minutes everything was back to normal... yes you have to pay for it to function what we would consider "normal" kinda BS but whatever.

Yea it's not really up for debate what happened to my system, Spotify updated their app and I lost connectivity to the iDrive... I rolled back the Spotify app to a previous version and it started working again. I don't understand how that could be anything other than a fault within newer versions of the Spotify app.
I did all that, 3-4 days ago? It's worked every day since. I let my Connected+ service expire and won't be renewing it either. There's a small very unlikely chance that the updated Spotify app now requires Connected+ services whereas the older version doesn't, but that would be PR suicide to mod their app to require an extra paid service to function, especially without any notifications, and if that was the case everybody's Spotify would drop out across the board. It's probably just a weird combo of Android based phones, certain bluetooth modules, iDrive versions, I'm fine just rolling back Spotify tbh. Really, what could they possibly do to their app which makes the newer versions a must have. |

Out of the blue...or so I thought...I lost the ability to select Spotify as a BMW App via iDrive. Eventually realized that all my issues coincided with the day my ConnectedDrive subscription expired. Renewed the subscription and it worked like magic again almost instantly. |

Mine wasn't spotify it was Pandora....
This is the thing.............. So wife has a 2014 CPO 328i, her car still has connected drive until 2020, and hers is all good. I have a 2015 m3 and February of this year the connected drive lapsed, right around that time my Pandora stopped "connecting" where you can control playlists and skips etc.... I took it in, they called in and they said it's because that specific service had expired, right when I had the issue start. Sometimes it did fail though and reinstalling the application fixed it... but that was prior to the expiration. With my S.A. and BMW on the line at the dealer we all got together, turned the service back on, which they quoted 50 a year.....(through BMW NA) and then after a few minutes it went back to normal..... So maybe Pandora and Spotify are different? I was just trying to shed light on your case since that's exactly what happened to me. I like switching stations, who doesnt..... but having to do it by hand was driving me nuts.... |

Mine seems to pull in the spotify cover art and let me skip tracks etc. but has no other real control over spotify - i.e. I can't select playlists etc.
I'm guessing on the 2015 models the app skills aren't standard, and having added Connected Drive its made zero difference. |
