BMC filters have the best build quality, expect an approximate ~10whp gain with the charcoal liners removed as well.

If I had heard that BMC are the best but I do not see a dyno or something that proves it .. I have not seen evidence about pipercross that being of another material could be an advantage ..

KN and Piper are worth almost half that BMC here in Spain

So can you give me more information about charcoal lines? I haven't heard any of that .. I really don't know what it is ..

PD: I see charcoal only in USA

Place a K&N and BMC filter and you'll see why, the build quality is much better on the BMC filter.

Would never run a foam filter, we've literally seen these melt into a goopy mess.

+1

Didn't believe this at first but I had K&N's and swapped over to BMC. Build quality is significantly better on the BMC's when you compare them in hand. Dyno plots will probably be similar.

BMC and K&N both good. Used BMC in our M4 and now use K&N in our M3. You will surely not notice any power difference between the two on a 3600 lb vehicle. I owned a motorcycle Dynojet dyno tuning shop for over 10 yrs and there was not even any noticeable power difference between the two brands on 400 lb superbikes. Motorcycle performance shops have always believed that while BMC filters have high flow, they don’t provide proper filtration. Just do some searches. With excellent flowing ram air systems on sportbikes, stock air filters flow well. Our factory air boxes flow well. Stock air filters with charcoal filters removed would be just fine. All depends what makes you feel best!

For now it is clear to me that I will not install pipercross because of the foam ... thanks

If I find a good deal on BMC I think I will buy these

If you find a used set of BMC they can easily be washed and re-oiled. That can save a few bucks and still get like-new filter performance.

I put in the BMC and popped out the carbons. You can feel and hear the difference right away.

I'm sure a good aftermarket intake without a closed air box (AP/MST/Eventuri) would increase the spool sound but it would lighten my wallet a few hundred or thousand more.

I use stock Filters as they get swapped out yearly no matter how many miles.. I don't see any performance gains vs value of the filters.. I had the Eventuri drop in's and now running stock air filters.. as BMW swaps them at service intervals.

yes i run them on my f80 m3

i saw no difference in performance
i heard no difference in sound (maybe a little bitmore induction noise, very little mostly because of the charcoal filter removal i guess, but no more sound than oem filter without charcoal)
they are washable which is nice in the long run, you can save some money and resell them when you sell the car.
THEY ARE NOT OILED so You will never have Mass air flow problem

for me if you have to run aftermarket filters, afe pro dry s is the way to go. this engine (s55) make so much power with only a tune stage 1 or more like downpipe and stage 2 ++++e85 etc

filter makes no difference at all if you ask me

^^Your correct! Even if you do get about 10 hp gain with charcoal filter delete and BMC, you will never notice on a 3600 lb car. Now 10 hp gain on a 400 lb sportbike will get your attention! As I said above, our factory air boxes flow well. Charcoal filter delete with a clean set of air filters of your choice is good! Additional air flow along with tune!!!

Thanks for the info/opinions. Guess I won't be changing the air filter to a drop in K& N.
