Redlined @ 1st gear

Hey everyone, so I was driving my F80 and forgot it was in manual somehow (1st gear), coming out of a turn i decided to floor it when all of a sudden I ended up redlining my car at 1st gear with everything turning red. Car started popping like crazy which sounded really good not gonna lie, but at the same time it didn't sound too good as i felt something went wrong. I quickly popped it back into automatic but I realized my engine temp was slightly higher than usual.

Should I be worried about this? Also how does this activity effect the crank hub? (If it does)

Appreciate any feedback

What temperature is high?

One petty rev limiter kiss and car exhibits high temps? The F8X is far more robust than that. You'll be fine man. Enjoy your car.

It's the car being mad at you for not driving it like it was mean to be 😁

The only way I’d be concerned about that is if you did that on a cold start.

Other than that, enjoy the car. Bouncing off the rev limiter once won’t hurt it.

What you experienced was the car doing what its designed to do-preventing any substantial damage, pull timing and cutting fuel.

There's a reason the rev limiter exists....

Only thing I would be concerned about is if anybody witnessed it.

Drove mine home from dealership, picked up my wife and daughter for their first ride, tried to show off my new toy and revved it out in first gear. Scared the hell out of us! Always owned manuals in past and didn't understand DCT manual process.. I'll never make that mistake again.

The thing you worry the most about is a money shift which you can’t do in a dct. What you did feels awful but the car has suicide prevention in place (unlike a money shift).

I went for a ride with a friend of a friend who, at the time, just picked up one of the first E70 X5Ms to land in the US. Absolute monster of a car but the gentlemen insisted on using the limiter as a shift point because it was his first time with paddles. In a lap around the block and 1 highway pull, we must’ve hit the limiter over a dozen times - 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear, it didn’t matter. The car had less than 100 miles on the clock and he then proceeded to drive it over 70,000 miles and 4 years with no issues.

You’re good.

It's called driving an M3.

Life starts above 7000 rpm.. well at least that was the case with the naturally aspirated engines.

Suicide prevention yes...

So simple a caveman can do it...

Raced an automatic C63 with my 6MT F80.

I'm sure he read up all the magazines.

Amg dual clutch; floor it... 🤡

40 pull he got about 3/4 of a car on me at the hit.

Then I proceeded to abuse that Automatic C63.

I'm sure he tried that nonsense before; picked the wrong dude.

We all hit the limiter, it’s easy with a brain fart. I forget at times upshift is back on the M4, on one of my other cars upshift is forward, wtf.

When I’m in the M4 I’m super careful to remember what the upshift is.

First time I went to shift dct manually, slammed the gas and went to shift at perfect moment... nothing but windshield wipers! so fucking embarrassing.

Happened to me once. Red light all the way at 1st gear so I quickly shifted to 2nd and the car just took off like a maniac.

Reminds me of my first car, RSX-S 6spd.

After a couple hundred kms I go for a 3rd gear pull in VVVVTEEEECCCC

At redline, pistol grip shift to 2nd. Luckily I wasnt very quick yet so RPMs had time to drop a bit. Let go of clutch and saw the needle fly....

Luckily no damage. Drove it 40k kms before selling.

you can actually go over the redline with a DCT by about 180 rpm.
it will cut the timing and fuel but the cars forward momentum will force it slightly over the redline .

anyway, no damage is done, most likely,
