Rate this carmax appraisal offer for me

Hello everyone
I just got an appraisal offer $38k flat from Carmax for my 2015 M3. Mine is alpine white with Sakhir Orange/Black Extended Merino Leather. Executive package with 19’ 437 wheels. Currently at 43k miles and still looks new. Going to immigrate to Canada is the main reason I want to sell my baby. Is it a good offer? Thank you guys!

I did a quick cars.com search and it seems 2015's with your mileage are going from the high $30's to low $40's. There are always outliers.

Having sold a few cars to CarMax, you're really paying for convenience.

Offer seems reasonable to me all things considered.

I think that's a fair offer for a '15. as a reference my friend traded in his base minus DCT '15 M4 for $34K in the bay area (see you're in SF) 2-3 month ago. Note that we're getting into the winter so the offers might not be as strong.

Is your car MT? i'd suggest posting here or FB clist etc for $40K and see what bites you get.

you are getting about half of what you paid for after about 6 years of ownership. Granted, prices have somewhat gone up due to Covid hindering auctions but I still think it is a good deal.

Take the money and run. Depending on how soon you need to make your escape over the border, a private sale may net you a bit more but the hassle may not work for your timing.

You can Google your own Bad boys bad boys, whatcha going to do song.

Mine is DCT. Just don’t have time for private sale now, so many uncertainties

Why not take it to Canada? If you did like for like for replacement you might be better off taking it with you.

You will have to have pay to get speedometer changed plus a letter from BMW for local registration. There are no duties (at least when I immigrated to Canada). If that is worth your while consider that option too.

Biden is that bad, I know. Kidding lol

I would also take the money and run. Not worth the time, hassle, and probably minimal increase of money in a private sale.

Good luck with the sale and move.

That's a pretty fair price. The MMR is around $35k for the car.

On 10/21/20 one sold for $39.5k with 26,745mi, Grade 4.4 on the West Coast.

If you need to get more you can try the private market, but then you have to deal with all the tire kickers low balling you.

Think of all the time you would spend listing the car, returning calls and emails, scheduling time to show the car and let random people drive it. Is it worth the extra 1-2k?
