But that wasn't a factory car, was it?

I thought those were more of a Spain-specific one-off.

I wasn't arguing that. I'm just saying it isn't "The First Ever BMW M4 CS"

Car looks great. Great wheels. Gorgeous paint.

The race-type door panels and center console are poser repellant. I love that.

Why wrap the dash in leather, while saving weight to the point that we're using pull straps on the doors? Seems like a glitch in the design. The standard dash is the lighter part.

Calling the addition of a more-hardcore M car "diluting the brand" is akin to the idea that you'd be diluting a mixed drink by adding alcohol. Nuts.

Adding cardboard door trims to save a couple of pounds (literally, look it up in ETK how not much lighter they are) is for the poseurs to make it look like a race car. It is not what will make it better on track.

Fair enough.

I wasn't giving you a hard time, I was sincerely trying to determine if I had remembered the car you referenced correctly or not.

I think that hits the nail on the head for me - perhaps if the weight savings effort appeared car-wide, and to be a genuine effort, it would be more impressive.

The whole thing just seems 1/2 assed.

You're missing my point. Those door panels will repel people who don't really intend to use the car on track. Those door panels represent dedication more than time on a stopwatch.

And you are missing mine. I definitely intend to use it on track. The main reason I have been buying ///M cars since 2001 is for them to serve as dual duty cars for the DD and track, as they are intended. And I do track a fair bit at a rate of ~20 track days a year. Those cardboard door trims and spartan interior are a deterent to me because they provide barely any benefit on track while sacrificing DD comfort and practicality. They are for the poseur: look at my race car interior.

A great looking car, more of a marketing move by BMW. I'm sure these will retain value for those you are concerned about depreciation. I love that front lip and interested to know if it would fit on my F80 M3 waiting to get the part number

Exactly - if you want to really make an effort on the weight savings for a track-oriented machine, the door panels are probably not the best place to begin.

And yet, there's full leather in other places - just seems like this car wasn't well thought out.

I have the same material throughout my i3
So it's "LTW" like door panels ( materials )
seem oh so familiar to me

I think the door panels are a throwback from precious LTW and CSL type M cars no ?

Throughout makes sense, especially in the case of an i-branded car, because there are other materials which are very heavy. And I am sure it's not just the door panels in your car.

Agreed. It's all throughout yes...light cheap that seems like a direction it's been heading in half footed or full footed.

Perfect track day car. Nice to see that BMW is at least trying to appeal to the purist.
