My biggest complaint about BMW. My Civic has AA and I love it. Luckily its coming soon on BMW but not sure if we can retrofit on our F series.

As stated above, I like iDrive for the simple fact that I can shut off the touch screen option. Fingerprints on there drive me crazy. You can't do that on many modern day navs.

I get where you're coming from, but I guess I use my cars differently than everyone else because I barely use the screen for anything. Honestly I'd prefer if it wasn't there at all and it was a clean dash like you could get with the e90s. I only use bluetooth streaming and it's always easier and quicker to control through the phone. My M3's system wasn't that impressive so I rarely listened to music on it anyways.
I like tech as much as anybody else, but in my opinion in-car dash screens were cool 15 years ago when sat nav was becoming ubiquitous but smartphones weren't on the market yet. It was a great transition to the smartphone era for cars and commuters but now phones do everything quicker and better and I'm finding the in car screens more and more useless and actually more annoying as time goes on.

same - my chevy bolt has great UI for android auto and apple carplay - best of all it comes standard on the base model.
That's the thing though, android auto and apple carplay are using your phone just on the larger screen and integrated into the buttons on your car.

The lousy infotainment is why I went with an Andream system. Not Android Auto, but a full Android tablet essentially. It still allows full normal iDrive system functionality, it just lets you also use the full Android OS and any apps you might want to install on it. Having Waze and Slacker on a split screen instead of the awful factory nav and bluetooth streaming is a huge upgrade.

Weird. I actually like the NAV on my 2018 M3 better than all my previous vehicles. My only gripe is that it doesn't tell you which side your location is on like "you've arrived to your destination on the left side" .. Other than that no complaints. Voice activation is kick ass also.

Honestly I have used my M4 NAV on critical times when I didn't have service with my WAZE and it was pretty accurate...
I opted out on all the infotainment like the HUD.. I wanted my M to be me and the car.. except for the basic stuff infotainment that will give me music and GPS... lol.. I like the experience.. Not going to lie., I get caught up with tech when I drive sometimes (non-M) but when I am with my M4 it is just me and the car! I love it! |
