A sleek design and a cohesive package allround, which cannot be said of the 4 series coupe. May be, the prior rendering very close to the concept design has dampen this moment. Nevertheless, a beautiful car but for some reason doesn't look aggressive. Can't wait to see the inside. Hope it is a special; place.

A gentleman's race car!

Has the actual car been shown already at Pebble Beach? If so I am a bit surprised we did not get a video feed like with the E92 unveiling. I'm also a bit surprised that there haven't been personal pictures or videos posted somewhere.

That is a good looking CONCEPT. Much like the 4 series concept was beautiful as well. However, again, this is a concept.

The car is looking a LOT larger than the E92 predecessor and this is a major let down from BMW M. It's obvious that with the higher moniker, the car has become equally larger.

It is highly unlikely the car will come with the front splitter and rear diffuser, as it is clearly not there on the test cars running around. These are are concept bits that will not make it to production, much like many of the desirable items that were showcased on drooled over from the 4 series concept didn't make it.

As someone else has mentioned as well, it looks too close to its 4 series M-sport counterpart. The rear arches are not very pronounced. The rear end of the car is very much fast back now.

I love the Debut color. I hope this is a standard option for the car, and I agree that BMW should bring back color to their M cars like back in the day. Colors like:

-Hellrot
-Dakar
-Estoril
-Laguna Seca
-Misano Red
-Technoviolet

Looks great! But I will say this....if the fender flares are not noticeably wider, I will not buy this car. If its anything like the M5 compared to the regular 5 then no sale for the dad. Petty...I know...but loves me some fender flares! Lol!

If this is concept, the production model is expected to be less aggressive exterior styling?? This M4 concept doesn't look as aggressive as the 4series concept..

The 4 Series being a bigger has absolutely nothing to do with the M department

And I can almost guarantee that the CF bits will be available from the dealership. Apart from those extra CF bits, stripes on the roof, this is pretty much what you would be able to get from the show room, which I'm perfectly OK with.

But I do agree that we need some vibrant colors available as standard and not having to go Individual

Looks great, but I mistook it for a M6 at first glance. It's those rims that got me. Very very curious to how the production model will look since I thought this was the production model.

Building on swamp's comment - performance is not a no brain here. even though we can be confident that the car will go faster to 60, or 120, a lot of M3 owners are track enthusiasts and turbo lag is a concern for them. While the car might be faster than its predecessor in a straight line, the question is will this car do measurably better on the track despite its introduction of turbos (and lower redline). That is the expectation held for this car. (In addition to swamps comments about it needing to compete with, if not surpass, other cars in this segment.)

Exactly. Everyone is going wild over the flares, but in these photos there are no rear flares, unless they so small that they are UN-noticeable.

The M3 on the other hand gets the massive wide fenders in the rear and the subtle front flares that the M4 has

Funny.... when i look at the pics you just posted, my take away is the exact opposite: the M4 makes the 435i M-performance package look like dirt.

I love the variation of colors rendered by members here. Digging the black and dark grey.

Though I'm excited about new technology and can't wait to learn more about the performance of this new //M, I am not super impressed with the new body lines. I like the air curtain, side gills, etc.

I think its an update for sure, but not exactly an 'upgrade' a new gen is supposed to represent.

It should considering the 1M holds its own against the current M3 and the M4 is rumored to be around 1M weight with more power and torque and way less drag.

I'll guess we'll see the M4 in the DTM next year though

History isn't just about what happened 10-20-30 years ago, it's being made every day... BMW M has motorsport history. Some models, like the M5, have never been a big motorsport participant. The M4 is a new model. The 1M was a new model. I applaud innovation and progress

BTW. I used the wrong wording re the rear wheel arches. It's not obvious that they are wider They might be, and certainly looks that way from certain angles. But far from as obvious as I thought
I might be more open to the new direction of the M cars if the pricing fell in line with what they are. But it doesn't. It doesn't take much to over engineer a turbo engine as is evidenced by the last generation e9x's. for the price BMW will ask for, this thing, there are just a lot better options.

Now had they taken a cue from Audi, and lowered the price (or hell, stayed the same) of this car from the previous generation, I'd be more interested. But for 90k well equipped. Hahaha...

This car is no E46. It definitely is no E92.
And that is fine with me.
It looks FANTASTIC. Totally my opinion of course.
  • I guess the 4 series is wide enough already, which is why it does not look flared. The M3 has to widen to the width of the 4.
  • The carbon roof looks amazing, those stripes are a win.
  • The first E92 M3s came with optional carbon front lips, so the shown front lip and diffuser may be an option without M-Perf prices.
  • I like the color, but I will take a blue please.
  • It is too bad I cannot get on a list for one of these, I can't afford it. Will have to wait until they are used.
  • I would order a base model with all carbon parts. Performance oriented.
  • Between the aggressive bumpers, hood bump, trunk, and roof, it is a pleasant upgrade in looks over the 4 series M sport.

I am fairly sure the M4 will be quantitatively faster on the track in stock form. It comes with Pilot Super Sports stock, and with revised chassis dynamics and (supposedly) lighter weight, there are likely to be gains in all areas of performance! All speculation at this point, I know. Can't wait for reviews of this thing.

The tinted stripes on the roof are glorious. Nice touch, would be a cool option!

I doubt it is not boring to drive.

And no brand new car is winning championships because no brand new car is going racing yet. Simply sharing a name with an outgoing car means nothing, and not sharing a name with an outgoing car also means nothing.

DTM? Sure the DTM of yore was a yard stick for production-based automobile racing. And it did help establish the E30s pedigree at least. But today's DTM car is an M3 in name only. Even the engine has nothing to do with an S65 despite having the same cylinder count and displacement.

When they update the DTM car to F82 styling cues and put the M4 name on it, that won't do jack to establish its credentials. But someone is bound to take an actual F82x chassis with an S55-based engine under the hood and race it. We'll see what happens. I would not bet against the M.
