Why buy an M car if you don't intend to daily driver it!
I remember when I had my Pcar, the Pcar community were all about weekend drives. It kept the miles down - a garage queen. They never really got to know their cars. I drove everything I had, from my first e30 M3 [270k] to my pcar [165k], my LC 200, currently at 145k, my FJ80 220k. I see 4 or 5 year old M cars with 16 to 25k on the odometer. Is it because they were leased, or, the previous owner just did not drive these cars. I understand the pandemic had a great impact on miles driven. But, do you daily your cars or are they for the weekend. I understand motorcycles being for the weekend or good weather - but, new to newer cars!
Any thoughts? Why buy a deliciously beautiful and fast car and have it sit in the garage? |

It all depends on the needs of the driver.
Some people have long, crappy commutes to work where the car can get damaged from rocks and poor streets. I daily drive my car but I'd seriously consider it if I lived and worked such that I'm in those conditions. |

Its a terrible car in 1.5 hours of stop and go traffic. Much prefer my soulless CVT hybrid.
If my commute was amazing curvy backroads, then by all means this would be the commuter of choice. |

I daily my F80 and my commute is a total of 12 minutes or 5 miles moreso each way with most being freeway. I once tried from my home to our headquarters and it was 40-45 minutes with traffic and idiots and it was hell, even in DCT lol.

I have a 100 mile round trip commute to work. Would rack up like 3-4k miles a month on my m3. It wasn't practical. I was at the gas station literally every 2 days. So I drive it Friday - Sunday and I bought a Jetta (45mpg) for the commute lol

I was a motorcycle guy and always wanted an M3. I don't ride anymore so I needed something to replace that urge to go fast and look good doing it. It's definitely my nice weather/summer car. I have an Acura MDX Sport Hybrid as my daily. I don't think buying a car like this is a waste to be a garage queen. Everyone's cash flow is different. Gasoline powered cars are a dying breed and this is a great car to own especially if you plan on keeping it for the long run. The f80 will be a classic. Just look at it.

I usually drive an M to work and when I don’t, it’s because there might be a Texas flood.

My commute isn't very long even when I do have to go to work. For context, I was able to work remotely before the pandemic and COVID just turned it into almost 100% from home. For family duties - kids school is 3 mins away and the supermarket is even closer. So for the quick runs around town I find it more convenient to hop into my Mini Cooper rather the M4 (which won't even be warmed by the time I finish a to-and-from 8 minute school drop off in the morning, for example). And so, the miles stay lower than I'd like.
Great question though! I'm completely against saving my cars for the next guy!! Lol

My '16 M4 is my "daily driver". But being retired since before I bought it new, I don't have to make that daily slog to an office, so it has only about 38,000 miles on it (but 24 track days!). My '06 Z4 M Roadster, bought used in 2012 with ~32,000 miles, was only driven about 500 miles last year and has only about 58,000 miles on it.
M4: ~6,900 miles per year M Roadster: ~3,700 miles per year

I daily mine. 10k miles on in 10 months so far. Just put away my ZCP wheels and put snow tires on 437s. Even better. I love it.

As stated above, everyone's cash flow is different. I daily drive mine and find any little reason to drive it. 30 miles per day, 5 days a week and if the GF and I are going somewhere for the weekend, best believe I'm driving the M. These cars are meant to be the perfect mix between track/daily use/freeway. BMW did an amazing job keeping the "race car" status while still maintaining the everyday usability.

I put 270k on her, albeit, it had to do with love or perception of love - young and inclined - I drove 3k a month for about 2 years going to see my perception of love - through snow, ice, rain, hail, fires. The rest was driving every chance I had! She was so fun to drive!
We have different needs and realities! Enjoy every mile, however many miles you drive her! |

Depends what dailying means. My F80 isn't a daily in the sense that it goes out every day - sometimes sits in the garage for weeks and then gets taken out for bigger trips and track days, or when the other car isn't available. 25k miles in 3 years, incl. winter.

The Everyday Driver podcast summarizes it perfectly where a car, for a multitude of reasons, becomes too precious for an owner to drive. It could be anything from fear of getting a wreck, a door ding, cost of maintenance, or even lowered value due to accumulated mileage. The cars just get relegated to the occasional weekend drive or in the extreme, just out in the driveway to wash the dust off. You see it all the time with Porsches. Why have that fun car when the fun just sits in a garage only to be looked at?
I myself act that way for a short period of time after I buy a car. It might be do to getting older but I quickly snap out of it especially after I get that first paint chip, door ding, or scrape from a steep driveway when I realize its just a car. I'm quickly approaching 60,000 miles on my 2016 and even though the car still looks like a garage queen, I will keep driving the car as much as I can until it's time to move to the next one. In a few weeks I'm going to put the winter wheels in preparation for a another Pittsburgh snow season. Again, everyone has their reasons for how they choose to drive their car and I respect that. Especially when it leaves some low mileage examples for me to snap up. |

Different strokes for different folks, but M cars are meant to be daily drivers by definition. Jack of all trades, masers of none.
I too though that I'd use my M2C selectively, but found it hard to do that. The desire to drive it is strong at all times, so I dont find myself leaving it home much. |

I daily drove my M3CS and now daily drive my M5CS. My commute isn't that big, maybe 7k miles per year, but I drive these cars every chance I get.
