Gotcha...makes sense. If they are gonna get ya, then make sure to double it up. Regardless, I love that damn.

The bright side is that adding the camera should only be parts + coding.

The wiring usually exists.

There has been no rear view camera pre-wiring in any BMW as in ever.

I agree, I think ED is great for some, but I always found it to be more hassle and cost than I'd prefer when buying a car. Yes, you do save a lot upfront, but knowing me, I'd spend all those savings during the trip or at least a good majority of it.

Back to OP's point, BMW knows their base and that's why they packaged pdc / BU cam in the exec pk. as everyone will convince themselves to get it because of A) Leather B) PDC / BU cam. It does suck BMW doesn't part it out as an option.

I almost considered doing this separately via bimmertech cam + PDC retrofit, but it comes out to at least $1.2k + labor it seems, then looking at exec. pk. today at $3,200 or $3,500, it's a no brainer since it includes the PDC/CAM ($1,200 per retrofit est.), Leather ($950), HUD ($?, but tech likely worth at least $500-$700...at least for me), all things I think for $3,500 makes sense + other luxury items included. For the items I actually want, it adds up to ~$2,800, so they are taxing me for the other items at $700 - meh, not a bad deal overall.

So when you group everything its a all or nothing type of buying which makes it easier for ordering as well as selling.

So don't expect BMW to go back towards more indiv options but instead more grouped options. Its frustrating yes however in the bigger picture it works a lot better this way for BMW and dealers.

You definitely have a point.. I just think the back up camera should be standard. That's the only thing that makes no sense as an option. Every car has a back up camera now. My girlfriends Mazda 3 has one standard.

Agreed. And it will be (by law) by 5/2018. Will be interesting to see if BMW waits until the absolute last minute to make backup cameras standard.

They'll probably offer an "HD Back-Up Camera" option, or "Enhanced Parking Camera". Anything to get people to keep ticking those option boxes!

I just wanted the HUD. I really got the shaft though because I paid full pop for exec pkg and because I chose the leather cloth carbon structure, no credit towards the "free" leather and no rear heated seats that are included. Should've been $3k for my car, not $4,300

I'd have checked executive had I gotten a credit for rocking speed cloth. I even had second thoughts about it and almost emailed my CA to add it despite feeling like I was giving myself the shaft. Luckily when I did reach out to him the car had gone 150 overnight. Not sure if that's the world trying to tell me something or not. To make myself feel better im looking to order either the Dinan, AWE, or Akra, exhaust shortly after break in rather than waiting a few months like normal before going balls to the wall with the mods.

It's not just BMW. Ford is doing the same thing, 2-3 groups of high priced packages with tons of stuff in them. The other option is what Honda and Acura do and basically offer no options, but just package them into the cost of the car.

Like someone said, otherwise you get a ton of dealer inventory. Now with THAT said backup camera should have been standard....come on
