The F80 M3 is my 4 season car, my E46M3 is my nice weather fun car.

The more I drive my F80 (coming on 12 mos) the more I like it.

The E46 is more nimble, playful and fun although the F80 will run circles around it. It's just that the F80 is so big... same size as early M5's...

I've driven E90, 46 & 80 and I like the 46 as most fun and the F80 seams really well built.

I get you. I debated this as well. Why spend money on a daily for the sake of depreciation on your fun car when you could have used that same money to recover from the depreciation? For me it came down to my enjoyment level in 1.5 hrs of Los Angeles in the morning and another hour going home. I loved my M3 but it was just a drag putting 80 miles a day on it not going over 25mph for more than a few minutes at a time in stop and go traffic.

People mistake daily/beater cars as having to be crappy cars that suck to drive. I find my daily to be very relaxing AND a bit fun to drive in traffic. It also saves me 30 minutes of commute a day. I envy those who drive less than 10 miles to work. I'd just take my M3 CS to work everyday and find the fun "shortcuts" through the canyon on the way home!

I had a 2015 mint condition performance pack leather etc. GTI miss that car!

Also have a 2006 GTI. Sold the 15 gti Got the F80M3 now the 06 is the daily

I travel a lot for work so I need a 2nd car to abuse miles.

Same here, I got the GTI because my commute is 35 miles each way (70 total a day) with some heavy traffic on the afternoon. I didn’t want to put all those miles in my F80 plus the commute is exhausting in the F80 (car is manual). The GTI is extremely fun to drive (DSG) and fast for the price. If I’m honest with you I enjoy driving the little thing almost as much as my F80.
