"Smoked" 437m wheels?

Heya F80 gang,

When I first got my F80, I noticed the wheels had this "smoked" look to them on the very edge of the wheel. It sorta extends to the double spokes.

I thought that it was something possibly the PO had run through on the highway, etc. and tried several methods to try and polish/buff it out. Well as I did that, it became clear that this actually looked like it was done on purpose, and looks like it was painted on.

I then saw a few weeks ago a fellow member selling a set of "smoked, black" 437m's for sale. So, is the smoking of these wheels an actual thing?

I frankly think it doesn't look that great, and I will more likely get these painted or pc'ed. First world problems, but I wish they were NOT smoked... haha.

Thanks for any insight!

Are you talking about the silver part on the Jet Black 437M wheels? If so, then yes, the silver parts aren't bare metal with clear clear-coat, they are painted silver and then a smoke clear is added. It's very hard to tell unless you see on that has been damaged, and then it's pretty obvious.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.

I will post some pics when I can. But I think I see what you are saying.

I really just need to stop being lazy and get these things properly PC'ed. THe "smoke" O talk about looks like the rim is dirty at all times. That clear coat was NOT put on well on this set of wheels...
