Hit a curb... rear passenger tire no longer facing straight
so i was in reverse when my rear passenger tire hit a curb (i didn't see it)
it seemed like no big deal until i went and looked at it.... the wheel isn't facing ahead.. it's slightly angled to the left now apparently brake fluid began to leak too now, when i try to drive the car, it starts to fishtail Quote:
but what do you think happened to the car? (and how much $$ is the damage?) |

Hopefully, its just a re-alignment fix.

hopefully your control arm is ok, most of the times it's not... I doubt that alignment will be enough...

If brake fluid is starting to leak, you did a bit more damage than what an alignment will fix.

It's a BMW, so probably not $$. Either $$$ or $$$$.
If brake fluid is leaking, I'd guess $$$$. That's the downside to using lightweight suspension components.

Sounds like control arm, wheel, maybe tire, examination of brakes for safety. Insurance should pick it up as you weren't racing or playing around.

Unfortunately, if brake fluid is seeping out, there's probably some fairly significant damage to the suspension and maybe even axle. Whatever you do, do not drive it around, as you will undoubtedly cause more damage and run the risk of having no brakes from the lack of fluid pressure. Have it towed to the nearest BMW center for repairs.
I'm curious about this as well. I thought that despite the suspension being fairly lightweight, it wasn't all that fragile. Did you back up really hard or something?

My son hit the curb in my E46 M3 and it ended up costing $2500. My rear wheel was bent in and the car would slide out around corners and it ended up needing a new sub frame for the rear end. Hope you didn't bend the sub frame and you only bent the control arm. I never let my son drive the M3 again.

anyway, i carefully drove it to the dealership (nearby) today and he said it needs to be assessed for damage the service advisor wants to replace parts from the entire rear left of the car.. (break, tire, control arm, etc...) he says he estimates the damage at around $6 to 7 thousand! should it really cost that much? i mean, i did just hit a curb |

thats very possible. typically this type of damage to a bmw is pretty severe and the parts are not cheap. i'm sure if you were driving an f-150 the damage would have been minimal but... as was noted before, insurance should cover this.
