335i Humming Noise from Dash... comes on and off in cycles

There's another thread on humming coming from dash but it's not quite the problem I'm having. For my car, the humming comes from the dash and it comes in cycles - i.e. it hums for 2 seconds, stops for a second, hums for 2 seconds, stops for a second.. repeat forever. This happens when the car is running and can be heard if there's not much cabin noise (i.e. radio volume is low). I have no idea what it is... but the fact that it comes in set cycles makes me think it's something electrical. Any thoughts?

+1. I noticed the same thing not too long ago. Don't know what it is, but it definitely sounds like it's something electric. Possibly navigation or stereo system...it sounds like it's coming from the car's computer system.

just noticed it too, like last week for first time. seems only when I start the car. hum for about 1 sec, off about 1 sec. It seems to stop rather quickly. I have a short drive tomorrow morning--will try to pay more attention.

could it be the cd or dvd spinning in your radio? I was puzzled by the sound that my DVD made while spinning around in my Nav-disc slot, then I figured out what it was.

That's the only humming sound I've ever heard come from my dash - and I'm anal about little noises coming from all around my car.

No, this is something in additional to the spinning DVD sound. This sounds like some computerized thing, going off and on at 1 second intervals.
