E93 Luggage question

Hi everyone,
I will be picking up my e93 in a few days and have a question regarding stowing luggage when the top is open. Can you use the entire length of the trunk space or are you confined to only the space below the stowed roof under the 'panel'?
Thanks in advance.

I believe you can only stow below the panel....if the panel is up...the roof cannot retract...

You can use the entire length (from front to back) but you can't have anything wider than the panel, or taller (obviously).

The most you could fit in there is a briefcase...If you want storage then put it in your back seat...With the top down the trunk is almost useless...

Lies! I packed a two good, airplane carry-on sized bags in their for a weekend trip. Took a little maneuvering, but it worked fine.

Yeah okay he talking about with the top down...I liked to see two carry on size bags in my trunk...I couldn't even squeeze my briefcase and laptop in there when the top is down, when its up no problem, its like a regular trunk

There is a funky little cage that everything fits in. The arms take up the sides so it's about 2.5'x3'x2'. With the top up you can move the storage cage outta the way and use the whole trunk, but with the cage unsecured, the top will not go down. Its small, but a pretty trick system.

That is when comfort loading becomes useful.

Where is the stupid confused smiley because that picture blows my mind! How is that easier than just opening the trunk normally? I swear I'm not trying to be an @$$, I really want to know. Again, its a trick little system with the trunk opening and the roof tilting (at least it looks like it is), but that seems harder to get stuff in the cage.

Search for the pictures (on this board) that someone posted. It shows luggage with and without the 'cage' being closed. Sure looks like 2 carryons fit - and they better, because that's what I plan to have on my ED.

...it is easier with comfort loading because you can open the cage to put larger things in, as shown. With the top fully down you have only a tiny mail slot to put things through.

+1

I've also had 2 carry-ons plus a small duffle bag squeezed in back there with the top down and fully functional a few times before. I even found a nice little cooler for beach trips that holds 24 Heinekens plus ice that fits in there with the top down.

There's a bit more space than you'd think in there, it's just not the easiest space to get to. Comfort access definitely helps, but for road trips it's not like you're reaching into the carry-ons all the time.

OOOOooohhh. I thought that was for all situations, top down AND up. That makes a bit more sense. How long does it take to open the trunk and top like that? 8-10 sec? Again, just wondering.

I use a full-sized Samsonite rolling garment bag, and it fits under the panel no problem. There's even room for a small duffel in front of it just inside the trunk lip (between the taillights).

Takes about 5 seconds...

Look here...

and scroll to posts 18 and 19.

I myself used 2 of these to pick up my E93 in Munich.

It annoys me when all those misinformed people state that you can only fit a briefcase in there. The trunk is deceptively large with the roof down, especially towards the rear.

...and you can fit a golf bag or an upright vacuum cleaner lengthwise with the top down if you use the pass thru hole. Have done both. There is a built-in bag with straps to cover it up. You just have to close the roof to get it in or out.

I get your point, but why did you choose an upright vacuum cleaner to make it? Wait, you're a vacuum salesperson aren't you. I am SO embarrassed.

I was loaning my upright Bissell carpet cleaner to a friend and had to transport it in the vert.

How crazy is that. I always look at options like those and think "seriously, when am I ever going to need that?" Apparently when you loan a vacuum cleaner to a friend. Done and done.
