Cold indication?

I was driving home the other night and all of a sudden I get this triangle with a snowflake inside it. It was telling me that it was 37 degrees outside. I didn't know this would come up and I obviously haven't been in the car in weather this cold. Besides just telling me, is there another purpose for this?

Not that I know of. BMWs have always done this as far as I know. My old E30 used to do it as well.

It's a caution that there could be black ice forming on certain stretches of the roads, especially overpasses.. just a visible note for you to take it easy..

For those of us who fight black ice once in a while, it comes up uninvited in otherwise reasonable grip along the trail.. Once you've hit it in a shaded corner at 50mph+, you won't forget it, and will thank the snowflake for the alert notice..

yes, it's just a warning that outside temperature is below freezing and black ice is not a nice thing to the beloved RWD bimmers.

I can accept that. I will admit to not reading the manual cover to cover.

When it's black ice, it doesn't matter how many drive wheels you have.. it plays no favorites, as you probably know.. usually the 4WD's break traction and slide first.. the good news is that they can sometimes climb out of the ditch afterwards, so have the advantage there.. unless the machine ends up wrapped around a tree/pole/concrete abutment..

You don't need to read it cover to cover, people just feel they have to post something and they post that worthless RTFM thing. Feel free to ask any question that may have an answer in the book

As for the snowflake, nearly every car I've rented in Europe has that symbol, not sure why American cars don't incorporate that feature.

They do. They put it on the a/c button.

That's a button, not an alert.
