Oil issues.
I have a 2008 328xi and did an oil change 2 nights ago
7 qt of 5w30 royal purple and a Mann filter. Well the night of the oil change finished up checked the oil and it was all good. Searched for "how to" for the oil reset and front brakes (just did brakes too) Well now it's telling me is low. Added a half qt and still says its low. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong???? This is my 1st bmw so I'm still pretty naïve That's for the help. |

Sometimes it takes a while to update, or recalculate. Someone on here posted a while ago exactly how it calculates and rechecks. Make sure it's on a flat surface when you check. Also sometimes it helps to drive around and then recheck.

Just in case, check if oil is coming out from oil filter cap. Sometimes either the o-ring for the cap is misplaced or rides up during screwing it down, then leaks badly there with engine running under high oil pressure. It actually doesn't even leak, sprays oil from there, a lot. It would lower the oil amount quickly.

Don't believe the reading till you have driven
Don't believe the reading till you have driven the car about three times
. the sensor readings are slow to update. You are about 200 milliliters low. If you want to top it off add 200 milliliters and drive the car three times. Then take another reading. |

What's with some people _ RTM
"...For a precise measurement and display of the oil level, it is necessary that the engine be at operating temperature, i.e. after uninterrupted driving for at least approx. 6.2 miles/10 km. You can have the oil level displayed while you are driving, or while the vehicle is at a standstill on a level surface and the engine is running..." And for those with a 335D, after warming the engine, turn it off, let it stand for 5 minutes, then check using the dip-stick. |

OP, the e-dipstick works as follows...
The bar graph in the display is showing you the level of oil in the engine for just the "last" i.e. 7th quart of oil. The bar graph is analogous to the hatch marks on a mechanical dipstick (or on BMW's old mechanical dipsticks, the area between the upper and lower lines). Many people mistake the bar graph to represent the whole 7 quarts of oil in the engine. So your engine is showing only 1/4 quart low. HOWEVER, the CBS needs time and mileage to recalculate the oil level. The engine needs constant operation and to reach specific sustained RPM for a few minutes to provide the accurate reading. Once the engine is warm and the parameters are met, the CBS updates the oil level every 5 minutes. On top of that, if you change the oil and start the engine and immediately take a reading (because the engine is still warm from the oil change it will give you one) the CBS will report the last known reading it has until it updates. So if you were a 1/4 quart low before when you changed the oil, the immediate new reading after the oil change will be the previous oil level at 1/4 quart low.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

My 07 E92 speedo looks the same. Might be related to the sport package? My negibhors 07 Sedan has a different looking one.

BMW recommends that you oil add oil in 1 QT/1L increments when the CBS notifies you of a low oil level condition (the "+1QT" notification). Trying to tweak the oil level in 1/4 quart increments with the BMW e-dipstick is difficult and can lead to over filling the crankcase with oil. When (if) your engine gets to the "+1QT" notification, then top off the engine with 1 quart/liter of oil. Don't over think this. BMW has engineered the system to maintain the proper level of oil and give you notification of when to add and when to change the oil.
