Steering wheel noise
Gentlemen, I took off my steering wheel to ship it to Coby Wheels to have it wrapped in alcantara, got the steering wheel back, installed it and immediately after that I started getting this noise when turning it left and right. Did I over tighten it? Under tighten it? Has any one come across this before?
Again, this only started after me putting it back on - there was no noise before. Last edited by Larsim; 01-23-2016 at 09:50 AM.. Reason: .. |

My steering wheel also squeaks, especially in cold weather. The two causes I have seen listed are a need to lubricate the slip ring, or the mechanism in the rubber boot at the floor. Since you replaced the wheel, maybe you lost some slip ring lubricant in the process? Here is a really good post about both causes of squeak: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...steering+wheel

FYI if anyone else ever comes across this noise in their steering wheel like I did, it was my clock spring. I somehow accomplished the amazing feat of damaging the clock spring when removing the steering wheel or when putting it back. $316 later lesson is learned and noise is gone.
